GABS Craft Beer & Cider Festival

After a challenging few months, what better way to celebrate June than the return of one of New Zealand’s best craft beer celebrations, the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (GABS).
Globally recognised as one of the world’s leading beer experiences, GABS brings together the best breweries from New Zealand and Australia for a whirlwind celebration of craft beer with over 40 brewery stands, including some of the big names from across the country like Garage Project, Parrotdog, Behemoth, Deep Creek, Liberty, Fortune Flavours, Urbanaut, Searchlight and so many more.
Alongside the big names from NZ, 30 of Australia’s and’s most trending breweries will pour GABS Festival Beer from the 240 tap Festival Container bar, including names like Mountain Culture, One Drop, Little Creatures, Mountain Goat, Bentspoke and Capital.
The cornerstone attraction is the new beers brewed exclusively for the festival and is year’s line-up promises to be a true delight to the senses. Tasting paddles will be the new buffet – there will be up to 50 Festival Brews inspired by breakfast treats, savoury snacks, fruity goodness, delicious desserts, classic cocktails and more. From craft beginners to the sophisticated palate, there’s something on the menu for everyone. Think peanut butter, coffee and earl grey tea or chicken salt, pizza or gravy. Fairy floss, bubblegum and sour gummi bears!
While beer is the star of the show, there is something for everyone with wines, seltzers, gin and cocktails on offer too.
GABS is well known for being a great day out with friends, with average age of attendees in the 24-55 range. It is a spectacular event, complete with circus and sideshow performers, Silent Disco, panel discussions with industry leaders, food pairing, fun games and their incredibly popular roaming bands. It is also a great opportunity to meet the brewers in person on their stands.
To ensure you are well fed, some of the best local street food will also be serving up tasty treats at each event.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Huge venue to the 2020 Japan Day, with plenty of room inside and outside. Food trucks and food stalls made this a specular event. Arrive early to avoid long lines. The organization put two stages, one in each room. Toilets were decent. Plenty of parking lot paid by the hour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Plenty of facilities, easy access and an awesome event. I went to the ASB showgrounds for the Auckland Armageddon Expo, and the event was friendly, fun and a really good time for a wide range of ages. If you have any sensory issues, it may be a little overcrowded and intense for you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have been coming to shows at this venue for 55 years, from the Easter show in 1967 to the boatshow two weeks ago. The place is a little ramshackle and sprawls and meanders around and through a collection of sheds, buildings and tents. It flows and has character and l love going to shows here. Auckland City Council want to knock it down and build apartments and l say to them build us something of equall size with better facilities and at least as much parking in a 1 km radius before you rob the people of yet another one of OUR places.
