★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Richard and Paula and their team were absolutely brilliant hosts. The accommodation was clean and tidy and there is a very laid back, friendly approach. I had some problems with a slow leak on my motorcycle tyre and Richard could not have been more helpful. The people here are straight shooters(which I liked) and we had a magnificent stay. The meals were great too!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was travelling alone through Golden Bay and I stopped at the River Inn for a pint. It felt like a bold move but I was soon chatting to the locals and the lovely lady running the bar. I needed accommodation for the following night and I was looked after very well considering they had a private function on. I felt very comfortable and safe! Neat old kiwi pub I highly recommend you stop in! :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Older pub just west of Takaka. Is part of the history of this area, situated on the old tram line system starting near Upper Takaka.
Quiet bar, opening at 3pm, supported by only a few locals. Good bar food ... take out option provided. Has camp facilities out the back, but only sparsely used.
Not sure how the pub keeps going, but it is well worth a visit.
