In 1992, founders Judy and Gerry Scully returned from overseas to their rural property 5km from Bulls, on the West coast of the North Island in the heart of the Rangitikei. Inspired by the lavender fields at the Tasmania Lavender Farm Judy had visited, and the ideal soil conditions and climate, they set about turning inspiration into reality. SCULLYS is the epitome of a local Kiwi business set up “out of the garden shed” with family and friends planting the first 10,000 plants. 

What started with afternoon teas and creating Lavender infused products in the family woolshed has grown in significant proportions to a successful export business designing products that are nourishing, moisturising and enhancing to Body and Home.

SCULLYS offers a suite of bath, body and home products made almost exclusively with New Zealand ingredients and resources. The principles of integrity and a responsibility to nature and the environment extends to the use of recyclable packaging, and products that are not tested on animals.  

Over the last four years, SCULLYS has bolstered its team with new hires that have extensive experience in trade and marketing, which has changed the dynamic of the business and resulted in significant growth. It now exports to several international markets – China, Taiwan, USA, Sweden, the Netherlands and Australia – with a firm eye on other European exports later this year.

SCULLYS Brand & Marketing Manager Alex Tee says the secret  “is a special power in the team that’s created by great people who keep things moving, offer reliability and consistency, and put their heart into our products and service.”

SCULLYS is committed to giving back to the community.  For nearly 30 years, SCULLYS has played an active role in Corporate Social Responsibility – employing staff locally as well as  engaging and supporting initiatives that share the strong family and community values that encompass the brand identity. 

The brand has seen an increase of people supporting locals – particularly since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in return it has also helped schools and organisations, by donating products to fundraisers and events that support the New Zealand community – including the sponsorship of the Black Sticks NZ National Hockey for two years, and NZ Fashion Week.
