This was a gorgeous we area close to the hotel we were staying in. We managed to get down here each day we stayed in Queenstown as the weather was beautiful and the scenery was outstanding. I can't wait to get back to Queenstown for another visit and to further explore this area

Serene and peaceful. Little known but a must try. If you take detours on smaller paths, you'll find hidden view points with mesmerizing view of the lake and the mountains.

Good track close to queenstown. Took a lot longer than expected. About 2 hours round trip. Overall very easy walk although there are a few little climbs along the walk and it can get quite rocky so definitely not pram appropriate. Lots of great viewing points and ends at a lovely pebbly beach great for skipping stones and enjoying life.

Its only 15minutes walk from the town center to this starting points. A walk all along the Lake Wakatipu to the bay. Its calm, quite and peace.

Beautiful quiet spot to enjoy the scenery and even for a swim if you are brave enough

Lovely track to chill and get a nice view of the lake and mountains. At the end you will arrive to a lovely place where you can either fish with a licence, relax and enjoy the view or dive into the lake if you are brave enough haha.

This track starts at the carpark near the Fernhill roundabout and ends at Sunshine Bay beach, about a 1.5 hour return if you don’t stop and enjoy the beach (pretty hard not to). The walk is almost like a mini Abel Tasman experience, as it stretches along the lake. Rumour has it that the more adventurous hikers have seen an 8-foot waterfall along this track, which has eluded even DOC staff. We asked a local, and she brought us to an innocuous point that will lead us to the waterfall (I uploaded a photo of this point. It’s about 10-15 min in from one mile carpark, on the left before you go up to the highest point of the track) - you can barely see the path as it literally goes through the tall grass and bushes. I tried to explore it with an acquaintance I met there - we got to a point where we had to sit and scramble down a steep slope. I gave up and turned back at this point, but she continued. I never found out if she found the waterfall. This path is very overgrown and there are sharp branches so please cover up your limbs before you go in. Honestly though I don’t think it’s worth the effort, there are much bigger waterfalls in Mount Aspiring National Park you can see just by driving in.

Lovely walk near the water. The path can be rocky and uneven or muddy when wet but if you’re okay with that then a really nice track with some good lookout points
