★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My 2 years at Te Rangihakahaka was ordinary and mediocre I felt like my skills were undernourished and also I perceived that I was just put aside and forgotten about.
The opening year of Te Rangihakahaka was messy and un-organised... making it hard for me to get an education at the school, along with that the Teacher I had for the first year (Gavin) felt like he didn't really teach us much because the school was just not organised.
The second-year at Te Rangihakahaka was better than the first year, we had got a new teacher (Claira) and she was good taught me a lot more than last years semester. We also started a few interesting programs such as Te Kura. I think the second year of Te Rangihakahaka was just better overall for me at least. But the teacher often forgot to follow up with work and people got away without even doing it.
But the annoying things is that I still didn't get enough work at times, but when Te Kura came in I had plenty of work. (Te Kura the Correspondence School)
A few more things:
Te Rangihakahaka has lots of technology but it was disappointing that they don't get used much such as the laser cutter and the computers in the science room that lay dormant for long periods of time.
Secondly, I think the morning routine is just too long because we had to say pepeha, whakapapa, karakia and song.s It was pretty much 30 minutes of that at the start of each day, and that adds up throughout the year of crucial learning that children are missing out on! I mean yes, I do value the Maori culture but maybe just do the pepeha, whakapapa, karakia and songs on Friday (Friday is the day when we learn Maori with our Maori teachers)
Overall, I would recommend this school to younger children such as year 1-8 but not year 9-10 because I feel like there isn't enough for the year 9s and 10s its just not the right atmosphere for them. Also, If you're a hands-on learner this school is the one for you because they have a lot of hands-on learning and trips.
