★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Trail can be accessed at several points along route 2 and local Hutt roads. Path is gravely but well maintained for cycling. Water level can reach the path in places when wet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ nice little spot to picnic or just have a quiet lunch. surprisingly quiet considering it's smack dab between the motorway and the train tracks. access to Hutt River and the cycle trail; plenty of parking. easily accessible.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pretty little spot beside the Hutt River semi-hidden from view and not far from the Silverstream turnoff. Has well established trees, a train track running over the River and the Motorway on the opposite bank, yet quiet enough surprisingly if you're planning a picnic here with the family. Ample parking with shade and kids love playing at the water's edge and under the bridge or watching the trains rumble past overhead. Easy access to the HR Cycle Trail at this point of the River. It's also popular with the locals as a pleasant spot for lunch during the week.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If anyone is wondering about running or cycling this track it's a mix of loose rock, light gravel and paved paths. Closer to Melling it is completely paved. Closer to upper Hutt there's a mix. There are multiple entry points along the road. From here to Melling and back is roughly 21km. Parking is free. There are ups and downs but I didn't find any hills long or steep. You don't need an off road bike as you can skip the first 1km of loose rock (ride on road toward Melling) then pop onto the track where the gravel is compacted.
