Seriously? I have been to 7 different schools including this one and this makes Orewa College seem like a decent school when it comes to education. I joined AJHS in term 2 Year 8 and what I have noticed is they focus all of there quality attention of the year 7 and 8's and then a bit in year 9 and then it just seems as if they think we can do all of this stuff in year 10 when we haven't learnt how to cope with it. They basically forget about Year 10's and leave them because they want the year 7 and 8's to stay and at year 9 and 10, they really just don't care. Please I beg you, find your kid a different school if you really can. 1 good thing is that there are some really nice teachers and the principle is leaving soon soooo. Still don't really recommend. Unless it is a last resort

Best school I have ever attended. I can't explain how good this school is because for me it's no longer just a school it feels like a second family. They not only focus on educational growth but also on individual growth. You can not find a better school for your son/daughter in the whole of NZ. Do yourself a favor and enroll now... You will not regret it for a single second of your life.

This is the best school in New Zealand. My child studied at this school for four years. This school has high academic achievement, passionate & helpful teachers and has modern& high-tech facilities. I think it's the design that best suits the youth education environment for junior age students. I highly recommend this school.

Tl;dr : poor management of students, unstable/inconsistent courses, teachers that done care about students Warning: all the 5 star reviews are current students or AJHS teachers DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR JUDGEMENT AJHS is probably the worst school In the whole of New Zealand because of a myriad of reasons ranging from poor management of students to the education system in the school. I would like to preface by saying that I attended this school for two years, years 7-8, so I am only speaking for what I have found in those two years. the below are all what I have personally experienced so it is not defamation. 1. The school is really flawed in terms of maintaining a healthy environment for students, there is a lot of bullying that the school turns a blind eye to, unless the student voices about doing something severe. I have had an experience where another classmate reported another classmate for bullying when in reality he was just expressing his complaints because the classmate who reported wouldn’t do any work in group projects, insulted and physically abused the other student and yet the school was not interested in hearing the other side of the story. 2. Straight up lazy and biased teachers. Throughout my two years I have met a range of teachers in this school, there are a few wonderful teachers who truly care about their craft and teaching, on the contrary, there are teachers who seem to love neglecting students. I was good at science in my second year of AJHS and when the annual science competition sign ups rolled around, my teacher only picked the white kids, despite me having better results and expressing more interest in science. There are also teachers that are outright sexist, in my second year of this school, I had a teacher who would obviously give the girls in the class better treatment. 3. The education system is both good and bad, allow me to bullet point - Science courses are great especially compared to other intermediates - Math classes are terrible, branching students off into skill level where the more skilled ones are often taught more than the lower classes. - also creates toxic class stratified behaviour in many students where they can’t get off their high horse just because of the number that follows in their maths class. - English is possibly one of the worst managed courses in this school. Inconsistent marking, poor methods of testing and is too incorporated with social studies, - Social studies is also terrible in this school. - The language courses have no structure whatsoever. 4. This school fails to see potential in many students, the top ten awards in the end of the year tends to be who was the teachers pet rather than actual grades.

my son whet to this school and saw his hot teacher vaping and from that day my son keep taking pic of her toes the teacher found about it and gave him a 1k to keep quiet Couse she was vaping and he could play Fortnite from 9 - 3 he has her feet pic up on his wall.11/10

This school has a horrible educational system, the 5 star reviews are all form teachers and this school is the worst thing that happened to me. The teachers are far too lazy and ignore actually problems, by far one of the worst schools in New Zealand.
