I was refereed to AMS for a panelbeating job on my Audi. This was done to my satisfaction which confirmed to me I should give them my business of servicing my car. A 1994 Audi which i had owned for around 20yrs. This car had been regularly serviced and was was (still is) in good condition. I booked it in for a break check as the pedal pressure was down in the morning but would come good after a few pumps. I was advised by AMS that the car was to old and neede a new booster which couldn't be fixed. Only suitable for wrecking. The car was far to good so i took it upon myself to find a replacement as per the advise. I spent a big part of a weekend searching NZ and Australia for a booster without success, finally finding one in Germany. The cost with freight and duty here was out of the question. It was suggested by a friend to contact Brake and Clutch Services in Onehunga. After checking the car they reported there was nothing wrong with the booster and the fault was a vacuum line which they repaired. That was in august 1994 at 260,000kms. The car ,2 yrs later and now 307,000kms is running fine. No brake problems. During the time the vehicle was ' serviced ' By AMS and WOF checks I requested a problem with oil leak. Once again I was told the car was to old and leak could not be fixed, just top up oil. I accepted this which turned out to be a big mistake. One morning the starter motor would not turn over. I contacted an Auto electrician close to home and had the car towed to them. A few hours later I had a call asking me "Who services your car ? or should I say who doesn't service it." There is a bad oil leak and it has filled the starter motor with oil and done much the same to the alternator. I told him about AMS saying the car was to old, his reply was "Rubbish". I had the Side cover gasket replaced for $107.00 after paying the auto Electrician $678.50 for a rebuild of Starter and Alternator. If that $107 job had been done it would have saved me $678.00 plus towing fees. Both experiences with my Brake 'Problem ' and oil leak problem when relayed to AMS didn't give any satisfaction. Two years and around 10,000km later and a new service workshop my car is still running like new.
