Great service by receptionist. Waited until person to help was free. Took time to listen to my story and then provide process. Said email would arrive giving instructions and it arrived promptly. Thank you.

This place is a stash of juicy stuff if you have NZ roots or have a topic and know how to look. Many things ask for clearance and one must still abide by publishing restrictions, but the staff will help genuine causes, those who follow the rules and point the way. Fantastic resource for enriching all sorts of projects, money well spent.

Archives are Aotearoa New Zealand's memory of all things governmental, truly a taonga (treasure). The Archives staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. The actual building is tired, but the reading room is worth a look. There's also a pleasant cafe on the premises, and across the road in the National Library building you can find the He Tohu exhibition of key founding documents in a truly awe-inspiring must-visit setting.

Archives NZ is an awesome spot to spend the day researching. The staff are helpful and always happy to point you in the right direction. Single File Cafe is attached so you can step out for coffee or a bite to eat from their delicious menu or cabinet. It can get fairly busy in there (who knew!) and is a popular place for anyone seeking information on old government records. If you find yourself with a few hours - and a curiosity about NZ Legislation check it out.

Such a fantastic collection of New Zealand national resources! Everything from printed documents to music to films. Great resources, cafe and, of course, staff. Looking forward to seeing the new building across the road!

Absolutely useless website! What was once an easy to manouevre website is just a clunky site with far too many words over-explaining nothing of value. I used to be able to easily search for military records but not so anymore. Have no idea why the word repository keeps being used when the average NZer has no idea what that means. Perhaps you should've used the word Archives... imagine that. It just feels like someone wanted to throw some money around to justify their jobs and this is the result. The fact that they have to have pages and pages explaining how to search means they have failed in ease of use.

Locker provided free of charge. My too-big suitcase was held safely behind the reception desk. Lots of soft armchairs scattered about the foyer to rest in. Friendly staff. Space to look at the archive files in private. Large flat table top to lay out larger items to photograph. I felt comfortable working there. Free wifi. Cafe on site.
