About Auto Upgrades Performance Tuning
Background
While working at the very cutting edge of automotive development at the world’s largest automotive OEMs from 2001-06 it became very clear to the founder Lars Wahlmann, that the emphasis on the drive cycle emissions was causing cars to be calibrated in such a way that the cars would meet the various emissions tests but the real world emissions were actually no better as a result of this.
The software tools used in calibration of the maps that control things such as fuel injection, ignition timing and boost pressure had features to make identification of where on the maps the ECU had been running during the testing and these areas only were calibrated in order to meet the prescribed standards.
As a result of the way the legislation was written when a vehicles engine is operating in a region where it might be on an emissions drive cycle it operates in quite a different manner than when it is outside such a region. The problem is when transitioning from one mode of operation to another it is almost impossible to keep the emissions to a minimum, it is equally detrimental to fuel economy and driveability.
In short the way Automotive OEMs calibrate vehicles because of the emissions legislation and competitive market in which they operate has caused almost all of the cars on our roads today to have reasonably poor emissions, fuel economy and performance relative to what is actually possible. He had a very no-nonsense, and very professional approach to getting the best out of my Mk7 Golf GTI without going over the top. The results were amazing!... he turned my already great car into something much more top shelf but without the price tag. Highly recommended. (My tune was done a couple of months ago, but Lars reached out asking me to submit a Google review... I see he must have done this with several of his customers, and it's a tribute to his service given how many have taken the time to submit a review in the last few days!)

Lars has a deep understanding of vehicle tuning, and I am satisfied with his excellent customer service skills and the fantastic products he offers. After his tuning, my car gained more peak torque and power simultaneously, and it pops and bangs around 5000rpm. Who would think of a boat to do pops and bangs? This is just fabulous, and I highly recommend him!!

Anwsered and explained everything in fine detail, booked me in the same day, tuned my FK8 to a high spec with no complaints.
HIGHLY recommend and will be our go to place from now on. Price, attitude & work is outstanding.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lars is probably the easiest, smartest and a very professional guy to deal with. He tuned my ISF and I have to say it Is definitely more snappier then before. He explained to me and showed me how he went about doing the ECU tune and also showed me how much HP and NM my car should have made and what he estimates it to be. He also explained the reason for not running dyno testing and how it is not as accurate as people think it is and is also a high risk of damaging my vehicle.
I definitely recommend using Lars as it is a lot of Value for the money spent.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just a quick note of thanks to Lars. The performance tune to my 124 spider’s made it very nice to drive with a good “pull” through range of gears now. If it had had a fault previously it was drop off at high revs which I don't notice as much now. Also it is still “understated” and I am surprised she’s still super economical when plodding in traffic in 6th. Well done, thanks again.
