Axis BJJ Christchurch: a Great Gym Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the most popular martial arts today, for good reason. While traditional Jiu-Jitsu has been around for ages, BJJ was popularized by the Gracie family. Royce Gracie gave impressive performances in the first two Ultimate Fighting Championship tournaments. His opponents were both bigger and stronger, but that didn't stop Royce from submitting them all and winning both tournaments. To learn, the right gym and instructors are essential. All BJJ gyms aren’t equal. Having a black belt isn’t a guarantee that anyone will automatically be a great teacher. It’s up to you to find a gym where you will consistently receive top-level instruction. and Axis BJJ Christchurch is awesome The Instructors are world class and have themselves been trained by world class instructors. They know when to be patient with us and when to push a bit. They don't play favorites during classes and treat people fairly. Axis BJJ Christchurch has a Family-Friendly Atmosphere This gym is a place where we get to relax and enjoy a great hobby. I feel totally comfortable taking my five year old to 'Open Mat' and have her on the iPad while I roll. With classes early mornings, lunchtimes, evenings and weekends anyone can find a training time that works. Axis Christchurch has True Martial Arts Instruction BJJ is a lot more than learning cool submissions. BJJ is also about self-discovery, self-discipline, and personal growth. Starting BJJ is a life-changing decision. It will keep you in excellent physical shape, it will improve your self-esteem, and it will improve your analytical skills. You will also learn values like respect, hard work and perseverance. The mental aspects of BJJ are just as important to me as the physical aspects. I could even argue that the mental benefits are even more important to me than the physical ones since these carry over to both my personal and professional life. Instructors here keep these factors real for me. Axis Christchurch is Well-Equipped and Clean ! Axis BJJ Christchurch has a strict cleaning schedule and prioritises sanitation. The mats look good, feel good and smell good. I'm not getting paid to write this. I'm simply a happy member, hoping you'll do yourself a big favour and come along for a complimentary trial class, an excellent opportunity to get a feel for yourself. Steve C.

Axis jiu-jitsu is an excellent place to learn martial arts. The facilities and instructors are top notch and provide a training environment which is warm and welcoming to all. I have a trained other martial arts throughout my life and Brazilian jiu-jitsu is an incredibly effective form of self-defence which can be taught safely and effectively to any one who is willing to put in the time.Beyond self-defence, training at Axis is also a great source of stress relief and effective physical exercise. Whether, you are a day one beginner, or looking for a place to further your martial arts journey, Axis is the place for you.

Axis bjj is a great place to get your personal space invaded by strangers and struggle to climb out of piles of sweaty meat every day and somehow find it fun. The classes are usually 45min of techniques and lots of sparring time after, to practice what you just learned and struggle. The coaches really know their stuff and focus on one technique and build on the details over a long time and make you drill the basic movements over and over and over so the things you learn definitely stay with you, unlike other gyms who might show you a few elaborate moves each week and you forget straight away or never use it because you don't understand why it may or may not work. The members at Axis automatically rock as well because they all have to be technique focused and have the patience, modesty and perseverance to work on the fundamentals over and over. I am a slow learner and one of the weakest people there but I still enjoy training regularly because everyone is encouraging and helpful to a point where they even convinced me to compete a couple times. Even though I lost every single match, it was a good experience to train hard and go 100% at people my size for once and it gave me confidence. I think more girls should do jiu jitsu even though it is sweaty and gross. Axis now offers girls only classes as well with a kick arse female coach if you're a girl and you want to ease your way in with less sweat and stink. You'll be going to all the classes in no time. Give it a go, keep going, and going until you get over the sweat and you sweat on other people back and it becomes fun and a routine you can't live without like brushing your teeth. My inspiring kick arse coach said that bjj is a lifetime commitment so taking some time off for travel or injury is not such a big deal. So I may come and go but I will always pop in to Axis whenever I can, train jiu jitsu wherever I go and I will always come back because Axis is my jiu jitsu home, my family.

New to ChCh, new to Jiu Jitsu was nervous about joining up but have found these guys really freindly and welcoming. Strong emphasis on looking after one another on the mat to avoid injuries. It's a great workout like no other and learning some good skills as I go. Highly recommend.

I have been coming here for several months now and I couldn’t be happier with the decision to begin training. The instructors are clear and approachable making developing proper technique easy, not to mention friendly advice and encouragement from all involved. Whatever your reasons for training, be it MMA, Self-defence or just a really good full body/cardio work out, Axis BJJ is a great place. Step out of your comfort zone and gain self confidence! 5 Stars!

Whilst in my experience all the BJJ Clubs I've trained at have welcomed me with open arms on my recent working Holiday to New Zealand AXIS JIU JITSU was my first experience and the club that I chose as my home, Heydan, Trevor and the team are always welcoming and willing to help both on and off the mat's. I would recommend BJJ to anyone wanting to get fit and gain confidence and would be my first choice for a Martial Art for children. The level of tuition is second to none with instructors associated with the club pulling from their vast knowledge across multiple martial arts to help their students grow in the incredibly rewarding sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
