About Bay City Mitsubishi

This project started in 2007 when in a fit of nostalgia I purchased this 1973 Mitsubishi Galant Colt GTO GS2000 off Trade Me.

The car had spent most of its life in Wairarapa and the body was in excellent condition with no rust, however the paint work, upholstery and bright work was tired.

After we stripped the car down to a bare shell I discovered that although it was painted blue, the original colour was white, so I decided to return this GTO to its original colour.

Once we stripped it down, the body was soda blasted which took it back to bare metal. From there we started a complete restoration job.

Most of the parts could be refurbished and restored, however we did manage to locate a few new parts and thanks to several people we were able to purchase a number of bits to finish the car.

Now, 4 years later and after a lot of hard work by Rob and Bill, two of our ‘older technicians’, the car is now finished and on display at Bay City Mitsubishi, Tauranga.

The paint work was carried out by Bryce Fisher at Carcraft Bodyworks. The upholstery was restored by Ian Handley at First Ave Auto Trim.

I left here feeling confused and completely ripped off. I felt like I was being taken for a complete ride and I would never feel comfortable purchasing, using the mechanics or selling there again. I had issues with my car and from the get go it was a disaster. I was left stranded with 3 children, prices to get fixed changed, from being told I couldn't drive the vehicle to then being no problem to drive, then the buy as is price compared to the price once fixed by them was a blatant rip off. The customer service from the ladies on the front desk was about the only good thing I can say about this. Renee tried hard for me to get the car fixed for me to drive that day rather being stranded with children and no curtesy car. I felt she was the only one who had my best interests at heart when all I was feeling was a dealer taking their opportunity. I would not recommend this dealership.

Excellent service and communication from a friendly and efficient team. I'm not big on car maintenance but these guys made it super easy and my car even came back clean. Highly recommend.

Service ladies are great and friendly. What disgusted me was the fact I have a medical exemption for a mask due to throat cancer and I was treated like a second rate citizen and made to stand outside under the canopy while my Ute was serviced. No chair or can we get a coffee just ushered outside. I explained I had an exemption and Alexia apologied and said sorry company policy. I am fully vaxed and all staff had masks on so what is the risk. I can go to supermarkets cafes and restaurants without issue and most people are very excepting of a medical exemption but you can’t go in the building here. Poor Alexia even had to stand outside and serve me. This place takes the cake and have gone to the extreme. I know the owner will respond by saying they are protecting people but what rubbish. The staff are all walking around mask less so unless they all live together the risk of me not having the mask is no different. Will not return and I have spoken to several mates that have utes normally serviced and they are out of there as well. I will travel to a different dealer and spend my money where I will be treated with respect not like a second class citizen.

Dan and the team were super professional and communicative during the purchase of my first, brand new business vehicle. For something that I perceived could be quite daunting as a first timer, I felt amazingly well looked after and the team kept me in the loop every step of the way.
