The last bit of the track is closed between August and October due to lambing season. The actual walk is ok, mainly 4wd track, came across some tall ferns. 1.5 hrs return. Probably won't do this track again.

Follow a 4WD trail, then steep farm track to rewarding views from Kapiti Island, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington. Sit hard up to the exposed boulders that are sun magnets for a warm picnic spot with awesome views out of the ever-present hilltop breezes. Shorter walk from top of Kelson or longer walk from Dry Creek Reserve.

Two ways to get up this track, you have an entrance off Kaitangata Crescent in Kelson. This entrance has a very small car park to leave your car. Or you can get here via the Belmont regional park. From the Kaitanaga crescent entrance there is a bit of a walk through the bush, can be damp in this area even if the day is sunny due to alot of it being under bush so wear some good footwear otherwise you'll find yourself slipping around. Once you come out of the bush you link up to Belmont regional park where you turn left and walk up a dirt road for about 5 mins to the first boulders which gives amazing views out over Wellington and you can even see out to the wind farm in Makara. Great walk and not too intense if you are wanting a bit of exercise.

Easy walk from Dry Creek. The last 600m are a slightly steep climb. Amazing views of the Hutt Valley and Porirua/Paremata. However, it is far too windy. Secure your hats. No good shaded spots, but the views were a good enough highlight.

Stunning 360° views of Titahi Bay, Mana one side, WGN harbour n Hutt valley the other. 3hr walk from Dry Creek carpark up the right hand fork up the loop track up to Boulder Hill. Serious 20min cardio climbing final 250m from loop turnoff. Enjoy..

Don’t go up during lambing season! The first time I hiked up from dry creek and it wasn’t until I got to within 400m’s of the boulders that there was a sign saying it was closed due to lambing. Big steep walk up. The next time I did the same route. Awesome views from the boulders. I continued on to the ammunition bunkers which are well worth checking out but all in all it was a 26km hike with not a lot of interesting sites in between.

It's a pretty steep climb but the view was worth it... must try if you are visiting dry creek... Try to avoid visiting Boulder Hill from August till October coz the hill will be closed for sheep herding so you won't be able to enjoy the full experience.
