★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This cute hut is a good alternative to camping in St Arnaud. More remote, more quiet, with beautiful scenery.
It's not sparkling clean, and apparently mice might be around (if not in), but we had our own tent and opted for camping.
Really enjoyed sunrise and sunset there.
You can reach it from Mt Robert parking and go up 2H from the West side. Should take you around 1H30 to come down on the East side, making it a loop.
Continuing further on the mountain ridge leads you to the famous Angelus Hut, but you'll need to book in advance for that one ;)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We went yesterday without ever having been in a hut and it was an amazing experience. Awesome view from in and outside of the hut. It's spacious and clean and the oven warmed the whole hut up quite fast. You better bring a thick sleeping bag though, because as fast as it warms up, it cools down during the night.
The hike there was beautiful as well. We started walking quite late, around 3, so we had a good view on the sunset from mt robert!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a gret little hut, yes DOC have made it problematic with a booking system. But they might actually keep with the servicing. Great little fire and the loop track is highly recommended. No toilet paper or rinse in the toilet pump so bring your own, but that would be common sense. Plenty of room for a tent if the huts full.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great hut. The only thing that could be improved are the mattresses. They are a bit thin and worn. Lovely firebox that warms you up. There was plenty of firewood.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A great hike from the Mount Robert car park for small children. Our three year old managed it OK. Allow twice as long as the signs say though :) the hut itself is OK. A little tired and the mattresses have seen way better days.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well maintained hut but mattress bit old. Toilet facilities is clean but no toilet paper. DOC emphasises this on their website. Bring your own toilet paper. The view is breathtaking but you can not see the lake. However, it is a good place to have lunch and relax before completing the Mt Roberts Circuit. There is water but not for drinking. You can pay for the hut at i-site visitors information.
