TLDR: Hired Joel to redo my roof, shortly after had severe issues with leaking and electrical problems I had to pay to fix. He refused to fix the issue, came out three times and blamed it on something else and has ignored further attempts by me to contact him. Got a roofer in this year to look at his work and stated it was not up to standard and not fit for purpose. Inshort, does not meet minimum standards required and will not fix his mistakes despite it being his fault. If I was able to I would give a negative star to Joel Cairns at Cairns Roofing Ltd I would, I strongly recommend using another roofer. I hired Joel to replace my old roof with a new one at the end of 2015. In early February 2017 a leak appeared near my back door after heavy rain and wind. I promptly emailed Joel to let him know that there was a leak and that rain water was running down my light fitting and filling my pendant light shade globe up with water until it overflowed. I tried to arrange a time for him to come when I was home. Having not heard from him I contacted him again to arrange a time and he told me that he had already been. I had to sporadically contact Joel Cairns in 2017 and 2018 and again on the two occasions when he came out he did not let me know when he was coming or advise me that he had been and it was only after asking did he tell me that he had already been. I had told him on several occasions the roof seemed to leak in certain rain and wind conditions but he ignored that and continually blamed the spouting. When I advised him that my light was no longer working and there was ceiling damage he fobbed me off saying the ceiling was fine, it just needed a paint. This is after I had already painted the ceiling and before it started leaking. He stated he wouldn't deal with these issues until he was happy the leak was fixed. His refusal to fix these issues and has left me out of pocket as I had to pay an electrician to fix this light and make sure there wasn't any further electrical damage due to the leak as this was a safety concern. Late December 2021 there was heavy rain and wind and again my ceiling leaked. I contacted Joel Cairns yet again in December 2021 and January 2022 advising there was still a problem but he has ignored my emails. In February 2022 I got a roofer to look at his work and they stated it was not up to standard and not fit for purpose. They noted that he was short in length with the building paper and the lip of the iron was not to specification and if any of their apprentices had done that they would be very unhappy. Since this roofer repaired my roof, there has been some extreme weather with rain and wind but no leaks. Joel Cairns owner of Cairns Roofing Ltd has extremely poor standards that do not meet minimum standards required and will not fix his mistakes despite it being his fault. A cowboy tradie, the ones you hear about on Fair go. I strongly advise people to look for another roofing company.
