Our well-resourced childcare centre has been serving Devonport families and their children for over 25 years. We cater for up to 21 children daily between the ages of 2 and 5.

Our team of talented, qualified and caring teachers deliver a stimulating child-centred curriculum. Our teachers are dedicated to your child’s learning and wellbeing.

Whether your child is a 'sensitive soul' or a 'big personality', our intimate personal setting caters to all temperaments. We give every child the opportunity to blossom and shine.

Our high teacher-to-child ratio means that we can provide individualised care for your child and support his or her needs appropriately. An individual ‘caregiver' teacher is assigned to each child to provide consistency of care and to guide them on their journey with us as well as support from extended teaching team.

We take pride in providing your child with diverse social experiences during our mixed age 2-5 year old group times as well as individual age groups. We have three developmental groups at Care-a-lot called Kiwi, Tui and Fantails. Through designing our programmes to fit each age, each child can learn at their own pace.

At our centre, we pride ourselves in involving families and whanau in their children’s learning through open communication. We love hearing from you about what is going on in your child’s life, what progress she or he has just
made at home, and we love sharing our news as well.

Centre Philosophy - we offer a learning environment that is welcoming, safe and stimulating

At Care-a-lot we believe that children develop through a variety of holistic opportunities and this is best achieved through play. As such, we strive to offer a learning environment that is warm, welcoming, safe and stimulating. Through the provision of interesting and challenging activities we will follow the children’s interests through caring respectful interactions. It is important to us that children’s identities and individuality is respected and nurtured. Encouraging children to feel empowered to take opportunities to make their own choices, show leadership, lead their learning and have their voices heard in a range of ways.

Care-a-lot acknowledges and respects parents and whanau as children’s first teachers and aims to support parents’ and families’ aspirations for their child by engaging in respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationships.

We recognise that Aotearoa has a unique bicultural heritage underpinned by Te Titiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi and we believe that it is important that our children have the opportunity to experience the culture of both partners to the treaty.

We also acknowledge that we are a multicultural community and we embrace each child/family’s culture by developing understanding, showing respect and reflecting this here at Care a-lot.

Our philosophy is guided by the childhood curriculum Te Whariki.

We understand that one of your most important considerations for choosing a childcare centre is the quality of the teachers. With this in mind we have invested heavily in recruiting, developing and retaining a stable team of qualified, passionate and caring teachers.

Our teachers are the heart and soul of Care-a-lot and they work individually and as a team to deliver high quality care and early learning. The small scale of our centre and high ratio of teachers to children means that we can provide more individualised care so that each child can develop at their own pace.

We also recognise the value of investing in continuing professional development for our teachers so that they are up to date with the latest developments and research on how children learn.
