★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Schade dass man nur noch ahnen kann, wie prächtig die Kathedrale durch Erdbeben enorm beschädigt wurde. Hoffentlich kann man sie in ihrer alten Schönheit wieder herstellen.
Jetzt kann man nur die eingezäunte Ruine der Kathedrale von außen anschauen, schade.
Wiki: Das am 12. Februar 1905 durch den Erzbischof von Melbourne Thomas Carr geweihte Gotteshaus gilt als Hauptwerk des neuseeländischen Architekten Francis Petre. Durch die Erdbeben von 2010 und 2011 wurde die Kathedrale so schwer beschädigt, dass Bischof Paul Martin 2019 ihren endgültigen Abriss und einen Neubau an anderer Stelle ankündigte.
 It is a shame that one can only guess how splendidly the cathedral was enormously damaged by earthquakes. Hopefully it can be restored to its old beauty.
Now you can only look at the fenced in ruins of the cathedral from the outside, a shame.
Wiki: The church, consecrated on February 12, 1905 by the Archbishop of Melbourne Thomas Carr, is considered the main work of the New Zealand architect Francis Petre. The cathedral was so badly damaged by the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 that Bishop Paul Martin announced its final demolition and a new building elsewhere in 2019.
