McTimoney Treatment

The McTimoney treatment is a gentle whole body treatment developed by John McTimoney in the 1950s, which is very effective in aligning the whole skeletal structure. Patients present with a variety of conditions ranging from back and neck pain, shoulder pain, elbow, knee and other peripheral joints hurting, headaches, injuries from road traffic accidents or sporting events and many other conditions.

The treatment is so gentle that the age range of Catherine’s patients has been from three weeks to ninety two years. The technique is very easily adapted to the type and condition of the body being treated and is suitable for pregnant women too.

X-rays are not generally used as practitioners are highly trained in the use of their hands to palpate the skeletal structure. If the practitioner feels that there may be an underlying condition requiring X-ray or MRI examination it is normal to refer to the radiography department in a local hospital.

Aotearoa/New Zealand

Catherine is working here as a McTimoney, CranioSacral and Trauma Buster Technique Therapist . There are currently nine other qualified McTimoney Therapists practising in this country to her knowledge. They work in Tauranga, Whakatane, Auckland, Christchurch, Hawkes Bay, Whanganui, Taranaki and Wellington. Catherine set up in Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula in February 2004.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.

CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

Trauma Buster Technique

Trauma Buster Technique can be used for any events that cause people to feel anxious, stressed or depressed. The traumas do not have to be extreme to get the relief people desire. Sometimes family relations cause people to feels stressed and anxious and TBT can easily be applied here to reduce and eliminate the negative feelings.

TBT is a combination of Meridian Tapping & NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP), which can be used in groups, with a practitioner and client in one on one sessions, or for self help. TBT is used to radically reduce and/or eliminate symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress, such as:

  • Flash backs
  • Hypervigilance
  • Disassociation
