β β β β β Just awful. The worst library in New Zealand! If you want peace and quiet to get work done -- as one should expect from a library setting -- go someplace else. Despite there being a "Quiet Zone" sign hanging in one of the reading areas, this is NOT a quiet library. The staff speak extremely loudly and the noise echos through the entire space, disrupting even those sitting at the back. When I asked the librarians about it, they said "Sorry, modern libraries aren't quiet, like they used to be" and said there was nothing they could do to control their volume. This actually annoyed me a lot. Totally rude and unaccommodating. Really -- don't waste your time.

β β β β β Worst library in New Zealand, there's not wifi, not toilets, and they charge you for computer use. I had never to pay for a computer in some other library (except Queenstown, but it's Queenstown) and all others library where i have been, they always have free wifi and of course toilets!!!! Very disappointed.

β β β β β Just awful. The worst library in New Zealand. If you want peace and quiet to get work done β as one should expect from a library setting β go someplace else. I came here for one thing: QUIET. The staff speak extremely loudly and the noise echos through the entire space, which has tall ceilings (acoustically, sound carries easily). This disrupts even those sitting at the back. May as well just go to a cafe with free WiFi if I can expect the same noise level. When I asked the librarians about it, they said, "Sorry, modern libraries aren't quiet, like they used to be" and said there was nothing they could do to control their volume. Then they proceeded to shout to each other from different rooms. The βQuiet Zoneβ sign hanging in the reading area beside the entrance is obviously a joke. Totally rude and unaccommodating staff. Also, you have to pay for computer use, and there is no Wifi offered. Only the Cromwell town WiFi. Really β don't waste your time.

β β β β β Has a lovely vibe when itβs quiet. Thereβs a reading section in the back and chairs in between the shelves for more private reading if u want. I agree with a previous reviewer that sound easily reverberates through the library though - there was a lady reading a story out loud to a child at one corner and her voice carried all the way to the back. On top of the staff talking, it wasnβt the conventional quiet I expected from a typical library. The library with its rustic design could improve on its partitioning of spaces with sound insulation perhaps.
Itβs relatively smaller so the book selection is more limited, but Iβm sure u can find some gems there. I didnβt stay because of the noise level, although there was a gentleman reading at the back who seemed unperturbed.
