About Bridge
Contract bridge, or simply bridge, is a trick-taking game using a standard 52-card deck. It is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table.
The Beginning.
An advertisment was placed in the "Evening News" on 21st July 1973 to gauge interest in forming a Bridge Club.
An inaugural Meeting was held on Monday 20th August 1973.
Approximately 60 people had expressed interest in joining.
The most convenient available venue was the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall.
Opening night was set for 3rd September 1973.
The First Annual General Meeting was held 21st October 1974.
On 1st May 1979 it was resolved that the club offer to purchase the Coronation Hall and the adjoining car park.
The offer having been accepted, it was hoped to start the new year in the new clubrooms.
The Official Opening was held 21st June 1980.
