Totara Heights Suburb stays on the edge of the old native wood. There are no well-maintained paths has been built in the reserve. Only some developed parts of reserve arr well-maintained. Mostly is underdeveloped and weeded.
Mature native forest is now very rare in urban Auckland. Some excellent examples of mature tōtara, pūriri, kahikatea-pukatea and kānuka forest are found in a cluster of council reserves in Everglade Neighborhood.
The tōtara, regenerating kānuka and kahikatea-pukatea forest is a successional community, meaning the tōtara and kānuka will be hopefully replaced by other trees slowly over time.
