Four Square Raglan - Four Square Raglan 3 Bankart Street
About Four Square Raglan
Why the name Four Square?
The name Four Square emerged when Mr Barker, while talking on the telephone to one of the buying group members on 4th July 1924, drew a square around the 4 of the date on his calendar. He immediately realised he had a suitable name for the buying group, stating that "they would stand 'Four Square' to all the winds that blew".
By the end of 1924, products were appearing under the Four Square name, and by 1929, discussions were underway on the use of a common branding on stores. Early versions of the Four Square sign were produced in the form of red and gold hand painted glass panels for display in members' stores.
In February 1948, New Zealand's first self-service grocery store was opened in Onehunga by Phil Barker (the son of the founder of the group) and Ray McGregor. This soon became the norm for grocery retailing.

β β β β β A good small supermarket with a wide range of groceries. Good for just picking up a few items or doing a big shop. Very close to town centre.

β β β β β It has pretty much a good supply of everything on this store. Fruit and veges are nice and fresh. The staff are friendly and helpful. Parking is the only problem during holiday season!

β β β β β Best food and beverage store in Raglan. The size of the township means that choice is limited compared to larger outlets in nearby Hamilton.

β β β β β Reading the various "lower-than-five" reviews for this Four Square makes me cringe. In every case it's pretty clear the reviewer is unhinged (check their other reviews, damn), or in some cases simply relish the opportunity to post false or embarassing content on line (hot cross buns? parking? the other full size supermarket has "better variety"?? (it actually doesn't somehow)).

β β β β β Came into purchase a box of beers and was asked to take my covid19 protective mask off. I produced my I.D i.e D.L but again was asked to take of covid19 protective mask.
I refused and was told my manner was rude.
I was then trespassed for 2 years for standing my ground.
By law anybody can be trespassed for no reason I was told by constable LHCF49, and also that it is a legal requirement to take your covid19 protective mask of if asked to provide I.D.
By the way I'm 37 years of age.
This incident happened two days before the first covid19 case was noted in Raglan and level 3 put into affect.
Beware of covid19 customer.

β β β β β Friendly, accommodating staff. We were from out of town but the experience was very pleasant.
Limited space inside with trolleys but the excellent service and staff make up for it. Thank you!
