β β β β β *A warning for families with young children*
We visited Glenfalloch on a sunny Sunday afternoon and had a great lunch in the cafe before wandering the garden with our 3 children (2, 7 and 13).
The kids were enjoying exploring the paths just a few meters in front of us, as we found different areas to look at, and bridges to cross. In a split second our day was changed for the worse when our 2 year old, not distinguishing the thick bright green pond weed from grass, stepped out from the path and immediately plunged completely into the pond. His whole body completely underwater.
Within seconds, I had jumped in behind him and was able to grab his clothing under the water to throw him back onto the bank. We checked him over, changed him in the car park, and promptly left to get home for a bath.
I'm not blaming the garden or owners for what happened to my son. I'm sure I would have walked past plenty of warning/waiver signs as we entered the property so I take full responsibility for what happened to him, however I am writing this as a warning to other parents with toddlers.
Hold their hands. There are paths with ponds right beside them. Do not send your young kids out exploring while waiting for your meals in the cafΓ© to arrive, like I almost did.
We've been to Glenfalloch before (for their night garden lights), and while our unexpected Sunday afternoon baptism took the shine off a little, given some time I'm sure we'll go back - we'll just never let go of our toddlers hands when there.
