The legendary Chubb's Thumb is built right here at Hauraki Engineering and with over 2000 Chubb's Thumbs out there doing it every day, this design is well proven and has stood the test of time over the last 40 years. Hauraki Engineering Chubb's Thumbs are great for picking up rocks or logs when needed. The attachment is easily folded away and locked when not in use. The Chubb's Thumb has a unique self-locking system where the cylinder rocks over center so the thumb is hydraulically locked in place by the ram. This holds the thumb neatly in place when not in use, without the need for locking pins meaning the operator does not need to leave the cab of the machine. This ensures the Thumb is always there when needed, saving you time and money.

What it does...

Hauraki Plains contractor Noel (Chubb) Clark, and Hauraki Engineering Limited, have perfected the design to create a device that makes diggers safer and more versatile in their use.

The Thumb fits on to the dipper arm with a hydraulic ram that acts as a prop. It has a controllable bite of one to three tonne. The Thumb clamps it's load against the face of the bucket.

Optional front attachments come in the form of teeth, hooks or a claw for silage, logs, masonry, steel, stumps and other load types.

Now your digger is a lifter, loader and logger. Use it for picking up unbalanced loads, bridge construction, demolition work, quarrying, a variety of forestry jobs and handling scrap metal, masonry and so on.

What it is...

Chubb's Thumb is adjustable in length. It takes a variety of end pieces that actually clamp loads against the face of the bucket.

The three or three and a half inch ram acts as a prop. At 2000 psi it has a two tonne bite. No greater pressure is needed. The pressure valve can be cut back to 1000 psi to compensate for bucket overload pressures.

The Thumb comes with with boom fittings and ram. Can be supplied for all machine sizes. It fits any make or type of machine.

Noel Clark spent 30 years of his working life as a dragline contractor on the Hauraki Plains. For the last 10 years he has owned and operated hydraulic diggers. In 1976 he was nearly killed by a tree he was lifting on the bucket. This unsecured load smashed through the cab, and missed him by inches. That experience prompted him to think of building a device to clamp loads against the bucket. For many months he experimented with a fixed thumb before introducing hydraulics.

Chubb's Thumb is now being used nationwide by contractors who claim it has revolutionized their business.
