About Helix Electrical Bay of Plenty
Helix was born as a response to Trevor’s (our director) own experience of the electrical services industry. In his experience electrical services contractors and businesses fell into two camps… The first being the well established business who were quite often a little slow and cumbersome due to their aging processes and business models. And the second being the fast and loose contractors, who delivered great work but would sometimes miss the mark when it came to delivering work on time, every time. The potential downside to both of these solutions was lost time, lost budget or compromised quality.
For Trevor, this posed a problem – clients were forced to bet on which solution would work, with no guarantees that work would be delivered on time and to budget. It was a project manager’s worst nightmare, especially when it came to discovering hidden tags at invoicing time.
When Helix launched, Trevor knew that there were quality markers that must be hit. Helix needed to take the best bits of the well established businesses, and the speed of some of the “cowboys” but with the attention to detail and quality that were so important to delivering a job to the highest standard.
They believe that leading the team with their family owned and operated values, means both commercial and residential clients experience the best service possible.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We wanted to change all the lights in our house from old fashioned lighting to new LED lights. We already had two quotes for the work we wanted both from old, established Electrical Contractors and the estimates were very close but I thought that the amounts were excessive so I checked on the internet for alternatives.
I came across Helix Electrical who apparently were new to the Bay of Plenty. I phoned Tim Elsley the Area Manager who gave me a verbal estimate from the information I gave him. A written quote followed very promptly which was very much lower than the ones I already had. I then invited Tim on site to check the information I had given him. He was very knowledgeable and found that I had overestimated the amount of lights I had told him were needed because some lights were downlights and others were just ceiling fixed. I also asked about three more jobs, removing two lounge wall lights, adding a light in the roof space and fixing a wall heater in the hall which needed an additional wall socket. Tim then sent me a full quote which again even with the additional jobs were very much lower than the first two quotes we had so I accepted the quote.
Within the week all the work was completed by two very able Electricians who were very pleasant, courteous and communicative and had the job completed in about half the time that I had expected. An additional comment from my wife is that everything was left clean and tidy and all packaging etc. was cleared away.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Helix Electrical for any electrical work. As a word of advice, get at least three quotes!

They were very professional, on time every day and a great team to chat with throughout the day. They completed the job much faster than we had initially planned for and we are super happy with our new lights!
Special mention to young Josh who was an apprentice working on one of his first jobs. Great attitude for a new kid in the trade and I can tell he’ll be going places.
