About Henry & Kemp
Henry & Kemp Ltd was founded in 1974 and was Wellington’s first specialist supplier of Architectural Hardware. The company was established at a time of great design and fashion changes, when the range of products was becoming too large and too specialised for the general hardware business to handle.
Initially Henry & Kemp operated from a warehouse in Walter St and primarily dealt directly with the building industry. During the late 80’s and early 90’s major construction projects in the capital slowed down, but there was a boom in residential building and renovation. Continued demand from customers to view the extensive range of stock we carry led to a change of location and the establishment of a retail showroom at our new premises at 263 Wakefield St in 1995.
The showroom has allowed us to display hundreds of the different products we stock, so that customers can get the feel as well the look of the hardware they require before they purchase it. Our experienced staff is able to assist you with making your choices and are happy to recommend the most suitable product for your situation.
As specialists in the architectural hardware business, we stock over 50 different brands of door and window hardware, which are sourced from around the globe. If we don’t have what you want in our range of over 3000 products, we can usually get it for you within 7 – 10 days.
Our contracts department handles quotes for commercial projects ranging from public toilets to multi story apartment blocks. The expertise that we have in this field sees us assisting builders, architects and property developers with establishing the most appropriate hardware solution for their project.
This expertise is also available to home-owners who are building or renovating and need to select their door and window hardware. We can give you a quote with our recommendations from your set of plans, or if it is more convenient, we will meet you on site, with some samples if needed.

β β β β β Some years ago, we bought handles for both internal and external doors, and external locks for our heritage villa from Henry and Kemp because we had heard they sold best-quality products.
The shopping experience didn't give much confidence: the staff were patronising and actually misogynistic.
We perservered - sad little men can still sell excellent products - and, based on Henry and Kemp's reputation, we assumed we were buying fixtures that would endure.
We were wrong; the products were substandard. Five years on and the external locks and all handles have failed. We are obliged to replace them - and it will emphatically not be from Henry and Kemp.
