Hibiscus Coast Community House - Hibiscus Coast Community House 214 Hibiscus Coast Highway
About Hibiscus Coast Community House
This year we are marking 30 years since the Community House was originally established by a group of local people who saw the need for a community venue to serve this area. Our first building was on the corner of Centreway Road. (It has since been removed.) From there we spread across three buildings along Centreway Road and brought in the childcare building which is still on site at 216 HBC Highway across from the campground.
We actually opened in May 1990 but our celebrations planned for then had to be postponed because of the lockdowns. Now we are marking the occasion with specials in our shop and events in the community.
A lot of water has gone under the bridge since 1990 and we have been involved in many different activities over the years. It is great to still be here helping our community! ?

β β β β β Absolutely disgusting the way they treated a poor disabled girl. You should be, and I hope you are, ashamed of yourselves. It's a pity I can't give no star.
You reap what you sow, and oh boy I hope you get one heck of a harvest out of this...

β β β β β Very disappointing that a business with the motto "with the community for the community " made the uneducated decision to terminate the volunteer employ of one of their most enthusiastic employees who has an intellectual disability because a fellow volunteer "couldn't handle it" and decided that Becca "shouldn't even be there" I find that absolutely abhorrent and, although a volunteer, it should be reported to the employment relations authority. The volunteer that "cannot handle" working with a fellow volunteer should have been given the option to leave if she had a problem. I note on your website that you liaise with Rodney Adult mental health, how ironic! Shame on you for such nasty behaviour towards an enthusiastic young woman who wants to serve her community.

β β β β β Compassion for the not so rich and needy but not for intellectually handy cap? Oh dear not a good look, pretty sad, it say's a lot about management and it's skills in resolving the issue. Break the special needs persons spirit cause a more intellectual volunteer can't cope. LOL get a volunteer who can!! don't ruin the little bit of happiness Becca Gibbs has.

β β β β β This establishment had no qualms in turning away a differently-abled volunteer, because another volunteer couldnβt βcopeβ with them. Management need to take a long hard look at themselves. I could never set foot in this store knowing how management treated a differently abled volunteer who just wanted to help out in her community. Shame on you.

β β β β β The shop profile has described itself as wheelchair accessible store, but will not support a volunteer helper with a disability who just wants to be part of her community. Would have been the perfect opportunity to educate the staff on disability acceptance. Shame on management, seems like the wrong person was shown the door.
