β β β β β My mother stayed at Fensible Manor several years ago for a few months. My mother recieved terrible care from the nurse aides. The principal was a lovely person but was no proactive in the concerns I expressed over Mum's care. Mum was frequently left neglected . While other restidents slept in the day in the hot lounge ,Mum need some stimultation as she was a fit and active woman. She was told to go the the lounge and rest. like the others. I asked if she could sit with the nurse - aides as they were all having their lunch. at the same time. They refused to allow this. and just ignored her and were rude to me. She was very upset and tearful. That night she was medicated with an unprescribed sedative which when I asked why as it was not charted for her, I was told was OK for them to do this. My Mother's cognitive state declined from the following day and she was them transfered to Middlemore Hospital, to the psycho - geriatric wars . Here she was given heavy tranquillers. She lost 5 Kg in 2 months and was in a fetal position unable to respond. She fell out of bed, broke her wrist, bruised all over. My Mother's last months of life were so depressing to observe, she certainly deserved better treatment than she received at Howick Manor. I still think about this often and decided my story needed to be told.
