★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a review for In-Step Podiatry in Te Awamutu. I notice there is another in Rotorua. We attended the practice in Cambridge Rd.
Firstly, the one star is for the attitude of the podiatrist, she was upbeat and positive and very friendly and attentive to myself and my son.
However. Communication with clients could use some work.
We made an appointment for my son who was having foot pain, on arrival we were greeted and after a cursory assessment told that yes, Liz could definitely help us and my son would need custom orthotics and that she would have these ready on Tuesday (we attended on a Friday afternoon), and that we shouldn’t worry too much about the cost as it ‘wouldn’t be as expensive as braces’. Not particularly reassuring, as I had no idea what to expect and had not even been given any option except the aforementioned orthotics. No exercises were mentioned, but we were told to come back on Tuesday to collect the inserts. Liz quoted me $395 for these, I was a bit taken aback by the cost, and also a bit blindsided as she didn’t mention payment plans, and seemed to consider it a done deal. After a talk with my husband we decided we’d go ahead (although Liz had already said she would make the orthotics over the weekend so it seemed there wasn’t a choice).
We went on Tuesday to pick up the orthotics as instructed, where Liz asked me to pay $517, not $395 as quoted. Very upset at the increase in cost, I asked her to explain and she told me she had quoted $395 EXCLUSIVE of GST and there was also a ‘fitting fee’ of $55. The fitting consisted of my son trying on the orthotics and walking up and down the hall. I left in shock. I feel that the first quote was dishonest, and that Liz needs to improve her communication with clients so that this doesn’t happen again.
