β β β β β Recently went on their new guided snorkel tour offering (affectionately known as the snorkel tourkel) and it was great! I got to see lots of paua, fish, and a crayfish in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.
The water is very cold though, so I recommend choosing the thickest wet suit if you get cold easily. The hot drinks and biscuits (aka cookies for Americans) at the end were a really nice touch.

β β β β β Tim at the Island Bay Dive Shop is amazing!! Iβve rented wetsuits a few times from him now and he always goes above and beyond to make sure Iβm comfortable and have the right gear. Heβs very knowledgeable and generous with his time - heβs answered all of my (many!) questions about which wetsuit to buy, when I eventually do buy one, no doubt Iβll be going to him!! Highly recommend Tim and the dive shop to anyone who is interested in diving/ocean gear, would give 12 stars if I could ????

β β β β β Best dive shop in Wellington! Tim was very nice and helpful. It was a shame that I've only attended the first pool section and couldn't finish the course due to relocation. Tim has kindly refunded me the course fee (except Elearning part which was paid to PADI). Would definitely come back to this dive shop to finish the course if I move back to Wellington in the future.

β β β β β Tim's been in the business for so long that he always has the best advice for you, being it regarding scuba diving, snorkeling or spearfishing: you name it.
Shop has everything you would possibly need, but if you're looking for something in particular, be sure that it can be ordered for you.
There are also open water courses running through the year and they come with after course free dives! If the ocean is your thing, you don't want to miss out on that opportunity.

β β β β β I would 100% recommend to anyone sceptical about getting their Open Water Dive license to do it through Island Bay Divers. Not only do they have the best deal in regards to the pricing of the course (you get 7 extra dives covered by the cost of the course), but the team truly cares about their students, which takes the stress away from messing up when learning new skills.
Tim is also extremely knowledgeable and has been beyond helpful in regards to me hiring/buying gear for various underwater exploits.
Overall, you really can't get better than Island Bay Divers - they should be your first stop for anything dive-related in Wellington!
