In 1980, founder Milton Kadler began a career barely 15 years old with John Waller, an immigrant from Cincinnati Ohio USA. Thru family friends I met John who was impressed with my wallpapering job I had done on the family home when I was 13. “Who did the wallpapering?” Once he found out this skinny kid had done such a great job he was keen enough to ask me “want a job?” so I became Johns first employee.

From this point on I started working for a true perfectionist who wanted a top notch job. He named his company “Do It Right Painters & Decorators” and we had too live up to the name having built up a resume of some high profile jobs in and around Auckland City including the Bean Rock Lighthouse which was being done up to be used in the Colorsteel commercial in the 80’s.

1987 was a year for changes and it was time to move on and start out on my own. John wasn’t happy but he let me go and Kadler Painters was born.

Like all things in life, the company that is now Kadler Painters has changed significantly since its creation in 1987. One thing that has stayed the same are the principles upon which it was founded, or our core values, “We Do It Right The First Time.”

1989 we changed location to Mangonui in the Far North followed 2 years later to Kerikeri where we began painting for companies such as GJ Gardners, Harmony Homes & local work from Opononi to Whangaroa. Employing 6 workers comes with its own set of problems and after our house burnt down it was time too move on.

2007 we moved to New Plymouth Taranaki followed by another move in 2014 to our current location in Manaia, South Taranaki where I decided a much needed break from being a sole trader to working for a local painting company seemed like a welcome relief. But alas, the money wasn’t great and soon I was back on my own where I was happiest and able to work to my high standards. So here we are now and the work is piling up.

At least 80% of our projects come from referral or repeat clients. We owe this to our high standards and customer satisfaction of a job well done.
