A great little spot to beach it. I love that the car can be so close to the entry to the beach which makes it easy to go back and forth like you do when you have kids. The estuary and an alternate swimming spot. With two public toilets at each end, all you need for a good day if you go prepared with your own food.

Just love the peace and quiet that is until some idiots want to park so close you can smell their cup of tea brewing. Thankfully this has only happened once when I've been there. People should observe the signs requesting ALL dogs remain on leashes.

Hawke's Bays best kept secret. Beautiful sandy beach with rock pools, a river, hill walk, and even a hidden waterfall complete with grotto

Awesome place with great freedom camping and a public toilet. Good shelter from windbreaks and suitable for large motorhomes. Beautiful sandy beach. Such a calm and tranquil setting, did the heart and soul good.

A delightful time at the beach. Tucked in under big breakneck cliffs, Kairakau beach is a great location for a peaceful escape. After you passed the Lagoon you find yourself facing the water and several rocky islands just off the shore. The grassy beachfront offers plenty of space for day picnic or rest. At high tide you can even kayak the lagoon toward the river.... There is an amazing scenery from the top of the cliffs after a steady walk up for the bravest: it is well worth the effort! Self contained vehicle will be super lucky at the campground for a little $3 per night at the end of the main drive. The little settlement is well maintained and really quiet.
