About Kuranui College
Tatau, Tatau – We are all one
Kuranui College is a decile 6 Year 9-13 coeducational secondary school located in the historic town of Greytown in the South Wairarapa. Only an hour by rail or road from Wellington and at the foot of the Tararua Mountain range, the college has a roll of around 800 students from the townships of Featherston, Martinborough, Greytown, Carterton and surrounding communities.
The campus is located at the south end of Greytown and is known for its attractive grounds and extensive green spaces.
The college was established in 1960 as a result of the closure and amalgamation of four small district high schools in Martinborough, Featherston, Greytown and Carterton. After much discussion, it was decided to build the college in Greytown as this was the most central location.
Kuranui was chosen for the college’s name as it did not refer to any one area and it translated as the big place of learning. The motto of Kuranui College is “Tatau, Tatau” which means “we are all one.” This is our desire and our aim as we come from four different districts: Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough and Featherston. Twelve contributing primary schools are represented among us. The college is becoming increasingly diverse - our teachers and support staff come from many different schools and Universities both within New Zealand and internationally and our students can be travelling for over an hour to and from college each day. Now we all belong to one College hence the motto, “Tatau, Tatau”.
Our crest represents the Wairarapa. The two white arrows represent the peaks of the mountain ranges. The blue with white zigzags represent Lake Wairarapa with the sun shining on the lake.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our son will start there next year. My rating is based on his older friends' experiences who are flourishing at the college, and my interaction with various teachers and staff; all those factors mean we're looking forward to our son attending.
Disclosure: I do the school website. (Of course, that also means I see all the activities , facility upgrades, student successes etc at the college).
