About Laura Ridley Photography
So who is “Laura Ridley Photography” anyway? Well… let me tell you my story and give you a behind the scenes look into our family photography studio ?
I had a bit of an interesting start in photography … and it isn’t how most photographers begin their careers. Growing up in a military family, ALL I WANTED to do was follow in my Dad’s footsteps! So when I finally had the opportunity to apply for the Air Force I was presented with a raft of opportunities that could have taken me in so many different directions. But there was one that stood out above the rest … Air Force Photographer. Military + Photography? Odd choice I know! But … I’m a “creative” at heart and maybe a little adventurous when it comes to challenging the norm. So a photography career in the Air Force combined both my loves and just made sense!
And as I sat in the recruiting office, with very little real world experience, my passion for taking photos must have shone through. I was one of the few recruits that got accepted into the photography trade in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. And that’s where my journey as a professional photographer began and MY GOSH what a journey it’s been.
Fast forward a few years later, I started Laura Ridley Photography and I have never looked back. For the past 14 years, I’ve been creating award winning photographs that adorn the walls of our clients homes and proudly shared with family and friends. Laura Ridley Photography has now grown into a team with studios in Wellington and Palmerston North.
But it wasn’t till I had my own children that I truly realised how much of a treasure a single “photograph” could be. Memories so precious, but oh so fleeting, can be frozen in time and preserved for future generations. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to capture the memories of families across New Zealand. Everyday I am reminded that photography isn’t for today, it’s for our future. I literally am so grateful to do this for a living.

β β β β β Such friendly staff and great experience! The final pieces looks amazing even simple prints. Only thing I'd say is response to emails are lacking but may be due to being very busy. Also phone line doesn't seem to go through, but thats more observation.Your best bet is just popping by the studio if you want quick response. I definitely recommend ?

β β β β β We really loved our photos, the photoshoot experience was fun and Laura was lovely as well as good with kids. She seems genuine.
Photos were good high quality with a good camera but not edited as the woman at the photo consult said they would be (one was edited but really not well done/ rushed so was sent the original)
Sadly we could only afford the cheapest option even with the voucher and buy 6 photos for $790 (thats with $200 off) and our photo shoot was also 'free' which would have apparently been an extra $400. So we felt lucky we had this experience with a $600 discount?! You also get a $100 voucher towards 'wallart' but this was not affordable for us so the "voucher" was not used. Now looking back it seems all a bit commercialised and i should have figured.
At the photo consult It was very hard to choose only 6 and very on the spot, a little rushed considering how much money you are putting towards the perfect photos (out of about 100). You dont get any more time otherwise you have to pay extra and you cant change your mind afterwards.
I recommend but just make sure you consider the prices and packages beforehand, they offer a lot of deals and vouchers to make it seem like you are getting a bargain but pricing and the invoice didnt make much sense to us and we have been with other photographers in the past and ended up with all the digitals and some prints for a lot less/ same price we paid in total for only the 6 ... I feel like so many special photos were wasted and deleted since we couldnt afford them all..
We look forward to recieiving the 6 prints we bought though.
Recommend if you can afford more than $2000+ for photos plus other expenses. i just wanted to leave an honest review about our feelings, not in any way trying to sound rude and i really dont like writing reviews like this. Sorry Maybe just not for us. ? all the best and thanks for the photos, there were some lovely ones captured i just wished we could have more of them!

β β β β β Turned up 20 minutes early to a "$200" free session that I was chosen for on Instagram only to have no photographer show up at all for our session.
The responce i got was to say that another person with "my first name" canceled the session, however i only recieved 1 missed phone call the day prior too our shoot (no voice message, or email) to verify the cancelation, I called again at roughly 9am on the day of our shoot to confirm our booking (sunday) however no one was contactable.
I wrote a complaint via email after leaving the session site, i was then called and offered (the explanation) as well as a free canvas and reshoot closer to my home, but after such a terrible experience, the trust was already lost, our photos would not reflect genuine expressions, therefore I declined. After 12 years in the business, you would think minor issues like this (such as simple communication) wouldn't be an issue, however I do feel that if I has paid for the session, maybe a bit more effort would've been made into "rescheduling" a shoot.
I have never cried so much after such an incident as I had today. Absolutely disappointed ?

β β β β β Laura has been photographing our family for almost five years now. During this time we have her a newborn shoot, couples shoot, family session and also a few one-offs. Laura is great at putting out kids at ease and getting the best out of them on the day. The images she takes have always really captured our children's personalities and our photos always have a lovely sense of story and emotion to them that make you appreciate photography as an art form.
The products are of an exceptionally high quality and we have really seen them as an investment worth saving for that will last a lifetime!

β β β β β Beware of this photographer, she has done it for us as well. She runs a lucky draw and fixes an appointment for a runner up , to which she never turns up. Beware Wellington. We had such a disappointing day after we drove for 20kms to our already reminded appointment with a baby, no one turns up at her Main Street, UpperHurt office. I am taking it to commerce commision, looks like this is a trap she sets up for couple of thousand dollar sessions than turn up for a $149 lucky draw runner up session.

β β β β β I won a newborn shoot via a Facebook competition, I won when I was in hospital being induced, I ended up having an emergency C-section so asked for sometime to come up with a date. I received three emails checking in if Iβd picked a date to a final book or we will close your enquiry.
I booked at the new studio in Palmerston North an hour away from us. I confirmed the date and received a confirmation email back. 3 days before our session I had heard nothing so emailed, they initially said I had no confirmed so theyβd given our time away, I forwarded their email of confirmation and they made time for us, I reluctantly accepted.
On the day the photographer made us feel rushed, the room was cold and baby was unsettled, what went from a 2 hour session we were ushered out the door in less than an hour.
The consultation session the consultant was lovely and I reluctantly purchased photos told they would be edited and I would receive via courier with a usb of my digital images in 4-6 weeks.
Today I received my parcel, no tracking no fyi your $1000 parcel is on its way. It was meant to be signature but since covid that hasnβt been happening. I was highly disappointed the photos are dark, unedited and on low quality photo paper. I also have not received my digital photos I paid for no usb or email link. I have emailed and reached out, prior to buying they respond to emails within half an hour, today I emailed two of their email addresses and not a response.
I also won with a local photographer, photos were a million times better quality, cheaper and matted, also spent 3 hours on the newborn session and made it a much better experience.
Iβd suggest others use a local independent photographer. These photos seemed like a American mall photographer (beyond my consultation she was lovey and helpful).
Also buyer beware wining a competition is reallllly expensive you get 1 free printed image and if you buy a small amount of credit towards your photos.
