About Leith Consulting: Resource & Environmental Planning - Land Surveying

Major Waikanae subdivision – one of Kāpiti’s larger land development projects.

Construction Industry: Leading the Way in Post-Lockdown Economic Recovery

Shortly before lockdown, one of Kāpiti’s largest current land development projects was just kicking off in beautiful Waikanae. The first stage, of a brand-new residential subdivision development comprising 17-lots, new road, reserve areas, and a walkway / cycleway through to neighbouring Waikanae Park.

Land Surveying and Resource Consent Experts

Leith Consulting are the lead consultants on the project, overseeing the design, land surveying and environmental planning processes. Having secured resource consents last year and, more recently, detailed engineering design; construction for the project – lead by the team at Goodman Contractors – had just started to get underway prior to Level 4 restrictions being announced.

All Projects Including Subdivisions Grind to a Halt

The Level 4 restrictions put in place due to Covid-19 meant a shutdown of our clients’ sites across the board, including this one. We used this time to develop our Covid Site Management Safety Plans and progress a number of other projects that are not yet in the construction stage.

Re-entering under Level 3

While we have re-entered the field with caution and care, it is awesome to be back out on-site again. Everyone has worked really hard to comply with the Level 3 restrictions and are now able to positively contribute to the economic recovery and get back into a sense of normality.

Our clients and professional peers have all been affected in some way by the Level 4 lockdown restrictions, so there is a collective enthusiasm for being back in Level 3 and being able to pick up the tools up again.

Construction Industry: Leading the Way in Post-Lockdown Economic Recovery

As influencer’s of the construction industry, our clients’ investments in these projects are making meaningful contributions to the local economy. Getting the construction works underway for land development projects, particularly larger-scale residential housing projects, means kicking off a chain of spending within the local economy which flows from the civil contractors to the building / architectural / interior design / residential trades / landscaping industry, to services associated with moving people into or within the region. It supports cross-industry employment retention and brings about new employment
opportunities, resulting in spending power ultimately flowing to retail and hospitality businesses.

Goodmans Contracting Company Director, Stan Goodman, says “All these guys are local, they end up spending money….well they don’t end up spending it actually – their wives and families then spend it but it goes back into the community, so it’s fantastic!”

Leith Consulting Ltd Company Director, Monique Leith, says “We are proud to be supporting our clients to keep investing in the future of local communities and we will continue to collaborate, innovate, and design our way through the processes to bring these visions, objectives, and opportunities to life”.
