This place is ok if u have never ridden before and starting new. However after a few lessons not worth continuing on. It’s very difficult to get spaces, plus the horses do not respond to commands, as they take different riders every time. So unless they r commanded by the owners it’s quite useless. Over all 2/5. 10$/ ride for 40 mins. Take a few lessons and then move on to a proper riding club..

horses are overworked, underweight, have ill fitting tack (have sores because of this) and barely (if ever) see the dentist/farrier. the arena is hard as concrete, terrible for the horses legs. the horses are left tied in the hot sun with no hay or water when they're not being ridden. riders are encouraged to kick the horses hard because the horses dont listen unless they're chased with a stick. this "riding school" doesnt teach you to ride properly - proper posture, correct diagonal, even how to turn and stop properly. horrible place.

Absolutely terrible, I’m an experienced rider and when I went here to try I don’t even no where to start. The horses tack doesn’t fit, they don’t teach you proper posture, the horses only listen to the owner, to crowded, horses are overworked, and the kids are doing stuff way out of their level. Their teaching kids stuff they clearly aren’t ready for, most of the kids need the saddle for balance completely and they are jumping?! They can barely canter with holding the saddle never mind jump. Very unsafe for the riders and horses please never go here and if you are currently going here I recommend leaving.

My son has ASD and riding is very therapeutic for him. All the staff are very professional and caring. I cannot rate this riding school highly enough! If you are new to riding or a child the staff lead you around the paddock and nothing is a problem. It's fantastic!!

Been going here for many years its an awesome place to learn to ride, with this place though patience is key because they may not be able to help everyone at once but if you keep at it and keep going there you will soon learn alot. The horses here are well looked after and now do get breaks, there is an arena for you to learn in and if you are more experienced there is a big track you can go out on. Every sunday they take the more experienced riders out on a trek through bottle lake forest which includes trotting jumps and sometimes a canter. Each week they change between jumps and dressage which is an awesome way to learn both. If you are wanting just a fun day out and casual ride I would definetly go here! They also include one or two games during the ride which are very fun! You get people here riding with none or alot of riding experience so it is a place for all to enjoy! The people here are very friendly experienced and provide all the support you need so no need to be worried, they also match the horse to you according to your ability so 10/10 recommend going here!!!

Mairehau is an amazing place. I've been riding there for about 3 years now, as well as short bits before I properly became interested in horses. The instructors are lovely, Robert (the owner) and his wife Michelle are also really lovely. They are all easy to talk to and polite, and often have interesting stories to tell. You can very clearly see that they all love the horses an immense amount, and care for them well. Granted, there are a few things that aren't ideal, but the horses are happy and healthy, and that's what that matters. Mairehau has a bad online presence from past issues, but it has long since changed for the better. The beginner horses are very calm and safe, and you won't be allowed to ride any that the instructors think would be unsafe for you until you're at the correct level. (Something to keep in mind though, is that while the horses may be safe as most horses can be, they are still animals, and there is always a possibility of an accident.) Every week the setup in the arena changes. One week, the jumps will be set up for those who are able to use them, and then the next week, the arena will have only trot poles and some barrels to weave through. The ideal riding level in my opinion is beginner to intermediate, though some more advanced riders can get more advanced horses. They teach the basics of steering, using leg, posting to the trot, cantering, etc. Once you have a bit of experience, they also teach you how to do things like finding the diagonal, going on the right leg at a canter, and more about the 2 point position. Once you are ready, the instructors will teach you to jump, and eventually once you're more experienced and can reach a certain level, you will be allowed in a fairly large open space called the track. Once again, when you meet certain requirements, you will be allowed to go on extremely fun treks through Burwood forest (and sometimes on the beach in summer). Some of the horses are older, prefer not to jump, or aren't able to jump very high, so your options can be limited if you want to keep working on that, but at a beginner to intermediate level, it's perfect. Mairehau Riding Centre is an ideal place to learn the basics, and to ride for fun in a relaxed environment for an extremely reasonable price. I have never been so grateful to have found something as I have since I started riding here. If you're considering going, I very much recommend it. If you're planning on going, then I hope you or your friends / family enjoy it! Take care, and stay safe <3
