★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Driving up the driveway you are immediately taken back by the spectacular gardens, by the time you have parked you are thinking we should have booked for longer.
We are met at the entrance by our lovely Host who is in the middle of prepping for a High Tea for a small group who are travelling to Cape Reinga and have chosen Mangonui Magic to break their journey.
We have a look at the rooms in the house, "The Georgian Room" with the big 4 poster bed and "The French" themed room with its early period furniture and big ensuit with bath. Edith gave me a peak of the third roomed currently being developed with a tropical theme.
Looking out the French doors onto the gardens we see 3 rabbits and a family of Californian quails and without my glasses on it looks like a couple of Kingfishers waiting to pounce on a tadpole or two by the large pond.
The house has a large wrap around balcony with bullnose roofing covering it, reminiscent of a Queenslander as seen north of Brisbane. Perfect for after dinner drinks while watching the warm hues of the sunset.
Location wise you could not ask for a better location, if you have your own transport you are 5 minutes away from some amazing eateries Thai, Indian and The Waterfront Cafe in this coastal fishing village of Mangonui. Our host mentioned that visitors regularly come to the area specifically for the food.
Edith can arrange for you to go fishing, bird watching or walking tours, as much notice in advance would be appreciated.
You are 1hr 53 minutes from the Cape Reinga and 50 minutes to the Pack house Markets in Kerikeri.
By the way don’t miss Edith’s amazing breakfast.

Edith’s service and breakfast are both amazing, she is both friendly and knowledgeable of northland.
Clean bed and sheets, a slice of chocolate mint and glass of water by the bedside was a really nice touch.
