About Moana House & Village
Moana House & Village is a Charitable Trust established in April 1984 to provide for the "accommodation of aged persons". The Moana House facility was officially opened in August 1987 and commenced with 36 rest home beds. This enormous undertaking had been accomplished with support of the community and untiring efforts of volunteers including the major part played by the Lions. Fund raising, loans, grants and the generosity of benefactors raised the $750,000 needed to match the Department of Health subsidy to build and fit out the building. James and Enid Watt gifted the two hectares of land that Moana House is situated on.
Moana House has always had a proud endeavor to provide a high standard of services and be proactive in meeting changing needs. Certification for ISO Quality Management Systems had been held since 1996 but in 2011 we dropped the certification but maintain the principles, plus we also hold Health and Disability Sector Standards Certification, ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices Certification and Retirement Villages Accreditation.
In summary Moana House and Village provides facility based services of hospital, rest home level care: palliative, PACC funding for convalescence, primary and continuing care. Day care, respite/ carer relief and meals on wheels provides support to the community. A reconfiguration of beds in 2012 has given a current allocation of 47 beds; 20 hospital beds - 6 of which are used for short stay primary care, palliative care or convalescent patients; 27 rest home beds of which 12 are dual purpose beds. One of the rest home beds is available for respite care bookings giving people the ability to plan ahead for breaks.
Moana House is a warm, caring and supportive home, providing for the residential needs of older individuals.
