β β β β β Great wine, especially the pinot, then the sauvignon blanc I had with the linguine, which was exquisite. Excellent, wonderful service and look at that view from the tasting room.

β β β β β Great wines, great view, impersonal experience.
Like my fellow recent reviewers, I must acknowledge their outstanding Pinot noir. Simply delightful in taste. Their view up the hill is breathtaking and if you lucky enough to hit the spot after lunch time, you might be lucky to find it less crowded.
We were strictly told by the manager on duty that not to do, where not to taste, where not to eat what and so on. We emphasized this behavior as rather rude and not welcoming at all. Luckily we had a nice Italian guy introducing us to the great wines.
Surely, we would have chosen a different estate.

β β β β β Gosh what a disappointment this visit was. Started with a very frosty reception from a member of staff. I said we'd like to do a wine tasting and was asked if I had a reservation!! We were then about to be placed at a table but was told it was reserved so were redirected outside (it is of note that no one later arrived at that initial table for the rest of our time spent at the winery). The lady that served us for the tasting was very nice and was the saving grace of the experience, however, the wine itself I did not enjoy at all, with the exception of the pinot noir. The tasting is extremely rigid with 4 of the 5 wines prescribed (3 of which were not red). The whole experience was highly commercialised. We did buy a bottle of the reserve pinot but was incorrectly charged for it. Then when I corrected the lady on the price (no apology) she incorrectly charged me a second time - not ok! The staff seemed very stressed out rather than appreciative of the custom as other wineries we visited have been, given the recent circumstances. Overall, absolutely would not recommend for cellar door - so many more wonderful wineries in the region with welcoming staff; flexible tastings and better wines!

β β β β β Our group of 9 (from all over NZ) had booked at this restaurant for lunch. As we drove in, the views were magnificent, especially at the car park. We were duly shown to our table and our drinks and food order was taken. Our group had ordered the lamb, fish of the day, lunguini, butchers cut and the Platter, essentially all the mains on the menu. The food came promptly and was delicious. When 1 of our group member had a slight challenge with his meal, Claire was so wonderfully patient and amazing in giving us a solution. With such stunning views ahead, gorgeous food, amazing service (Claire and Maria) and a picturesque "Grand Canyon" double as a back drop, this place deserves a 6 star rating.

β β β β β The long walk up is worth it. Stunning location. We had wine tasting with a lovely and informative staff member and it was really busy but never felt ignored. Really lovely wine and a great place just to have a glass. Would love to try the food. Would recommend!

β β β β β Me and my partner did the premium wine tasting this morning and got quite disappointed.
The person that serve us was very formal and for some reason ignored my partner and only made eye contact with me. It was quite uncomfortable for both of us that's she did not even acknowledge his presence.
We had our tasting in the reception room where all the restaurant guests are welcome so it feels like being on a hallway.
Overall it was not the expectation we had for Mount Difficulty Cellar room but was way beyond unfortunately.
On the side of it, the wine tasting was good.
