Whether you are looking for a great lookout, want to see the results of the sea carving into the land, check out the blowhole, keen on bird watching, want an awesome swim in the swells or to just chill and watch the sunset. All of the above is viable at muriwai. You might even be fortunate enough to see the odd seal show up.

Loved this spot, the weather provided the rugged raw coast the extra power that draws you in. You can sit and watch it for hours,, out until it rained.

A wonderful visit - especially when the gannets are around! Beautiful location :) When international borders are open, it's a fabulous tourist location too!

Stunning area for any weather conditions. Tracks are well managed and amenities are widely available and clean. Sadly, crowded days bring more rubbishes left behind. Gannet colony worth a visit (just hope we are not too invasive for these beautiful wild creatures). The coastal walk is exquisite... not to mention the splendid sunset along the hills watching paragliders and the jawdropping seascape.

I love Muriwai, it's my favourite NZ beach. There's loads of room, even in the height of summer (it's huge) and there is plenty of surfing to be had. Even in winter it's lovely and try to get there to watch the sunset, it's beautiful.

Be prepared for the strong smell coming from the Gannets but otherwise so cool to be so close to them !! Beautiful landscape. We had a picnic by the beach on one of the picnic tables after visiting the Gannet Colony.

Great beach with lovely short walk to a gannet colony. Whether the gannets are there depends on the time of the year. They're there from October through March. We were there in June, so no gannets at all, but the views are still magnificent, so a great walk when the weather is fine.

One of my favourite beaches in Auckland. Good access, parking clean toilets, great restaurant, ice cream, awesome play park for kids and the most beautiful black sand beach. It's got it all.
