The Ngāti Kahungunu organisation and iwi reaches far and wide with coverage that encompasses local Taiwhenua and National / International groups.
The organisation is governed by a board or representatives from the six areas within the Kahungunu rohe. Two representatives from the Taura here areas, a kaumātua representative and a chairman. The board members are elected into their positions and meet regularly to discuss iwi matters moving forward. The board is governed by a constitution.
