A member of the New Zealand Institute of driver educators (NZIDE), Ian is a qualified class 1 to 6 and “P” endorsed driver trainer. Coming from the rigorous standards of the heavy road transport and fuel industries, he has a profound understanding of safe driving. Ian has thirteen years experience as a commercial pilot, has owned and operated his own rental car business, and now resides in Plimmerton, Wellington.
Training is carried out in an easy to drive, late model Suzuki Swift with modern technology such as safety camera, Advanced Forward Detection Systems and satellite navigation. You'll learn about basic car care and dealing with breakdowns to give you a comprehensive and rounded driving education.

β β β β β I booked 7 driving lessons with Ian as I didn't have much experience in driving. He helped me stay calm in scary situations that I had never been in before. He was patient and always made sure I understood what I was doing before I did it. Always was happy to see me and it was never awkward in the car while driving. Because of Ian I passed my restricted licence on the first try!

I was told that before my restricted license test that I should do at least one lesson with Ian to find all the things I need to work on surely enough he picked up on all my bad habits I needed to work on which resulted in me passing my test first try! Ian was helpful and efficient with his communication, he knew what he was doing (obviously) and helped me to relax more when driving. 10/10 from me though and I'd totally recommend him to anyone else!

He was able to help me learn all the skills I needed to get my restricted and thanks to him I passed first try! β β β β β Ian is a fantastic teacher. I was an older learner with zero driving experience and a boat load of nerves. He is extremely calm, clear and encouraging and understood my anxiety. Would recommend him to anyone learning to drive. He won't just teach you to pass the test but to also be a competent, safe and confident driver. He's also a good laugh which helps with those nerves no end!

β β β β β Thrilled to have passed my restricted first try, thanks to Ian's lessons! I didn't start driving until ~30 and was so nervous. Ian is a great teacher, he introduced each new skill I was scared of in a way that feels like no big deal - it's reassuring, and helped to build my confidence. He's also very patient reminding the same things over and over, or practicing a skill on repeat, until you've got it! His lessons take you around the possible test routes with pointers of how to tackle the most common spots for making mistakes. Highly recommend, thanks Ian!

I used No Clutch Driver Training before sitting my restricted. I was really nervous before my first lesson, but Ian made me feel comfortable and my confidence increased with every lesson. Ian's temperament and attention to detail makes him a great driving instructor. Following each lesson we'd discuss what went well and not so well, so I could practice before the next lesson.
