North Shore Riding Club - Albany

For over 80 years the North Shore Riding Club has enjoyed and maintained a healthy relationship with the Albany community.  The purpose of the North Shore Riding Club is to promote horse riding as a recreational sport in a safe and engaging environment which fosters companionship among adults who enjoy the all aspects of equestrian activities where horses are treated with humanity and respect. 

First established in Takapuna, the Club has operated from a 230 acre property on the Redvale/Dairy Flat border since 23 March, 1939.   The Club has covenanted 17.3 hectares of native forest on our property with the QEII National Trust.  On Sunday 30th March 2014, the club celebrated it's75th Anniversaryand erected our brand new “Nan Herbert Memorial” sign in front of the grass showground and show jumping arena.  For those of you who are new members, Nan Herbert was instrumental in helping the Riding Club get on the property ladder by way of selling part of her own property to the club, giving us investment potential.

We accommodate up to 70 horses and provide our members with facilities for training, recreational riding and instructional clinics, making the pleasure of horse riding as safe and affordable as possible.  The Club is not-for-profit and all fees and grazing levies are maintained at a minimal cost to members and these offset the property’s operational and maintenance expenses.

We have herds of approximately 10-12 horses each, therefore your horse needs to be comfortable with grazing as part of a larger group.  Herds are rotated every Saturday into a fresh paddock and you are expected to have your horse moved by 12pm. 

Each herd has a Herd Co-Ordinator to help grazers within their herd to know what is going on from week to week. 

Grazing members pay a monthly grazing fee, plus a worming treatment every three months (Winter is compulsory but FEC is encouraged for the other two dates) and a hay levy for the winter.  Hay is fed to the herds by our grounds-man and is coordinated by the grazing officers.
