Worth a visit as you can feed the Giraffes and see how they feed the Otters, Tigers, Lions and various other animals they have.

I enjoyed Orana Wildlife Park even more than I thought I would. Although it's definitely not one of the most "polished" establishments (some fencing and storage areas could do with a tidy up), it's a very welcoming and enjoyable place to visit. The animal enclosures look good and spacious and it's such a lovely feature to be able to hand feed the giraffes at their height as you stand on the viewing platform. The two highlights for us were the tiger feeding and lion feeding. Interesting to chat with one of the feeders who told us some more about the two tigers Scout and Reggie. And cool to see Scout respond to the feeder as he called to him. Definitely recommend doing a ride on the park shuttle which takes you around the whole park with some live commentary from the driver. It helps you get your bearings and is also a great overview of the whole place. Would recommend a visit here. :-)

Spent the afternoon at Orana Park, on a crisp clear day here in Christchurch. There was a lot of walking involved so if you have small children you might want to consider bringing a pushchair for them. Overall the ground was level, with really only one section with a hill so you don't have to be super fit to get around. The animals look really well cared for and seem happy enough, but one or two grazers looked like they didn't quite have enough grass. Bathroom facilities were clean and tidy. A couple of no shows - the Tasmanian Devils and Porcupines didn't want to be looked at and so declined to be viewed, but that's their choice so all good. Highlights were hand feeding the giraffes and getting to be right up close and personal with the rhinos for no extra cost, which was just lovely and a great opportunity for any and everybody to see these beautiful creatures and gain an appreciation for their plight in the wild. A nice day out.
