About Papakura City FC

The Papakura City Football Club of today has grown out of its humble beginnings in 1959. In 1959 founding members Fred Edwards, George Sheppard and Peter Simmonds formed a club called Papakura Town A.F.C with the club colours of yellow and black. (The colours still used today as clubs away strip).

McLennan Park was to become the clubs home ground but was not available to use for another year. Papakura Army Camp was approached by the club to use their fields until McLennan was ready; the club still uses the Army Camp fields today for junior and youth games.

1964 saw the club s name change to Papakura A.F.C and the introduction of the blue and white club colours.

In 1975 Papakura A.F.C became Papakura City A.F.C to coincide with the Papakura obtaining city status. The club took a long term lease of the lower ground at McLennan Park which now serves as the clubs number 1 pitch for senior games.

1982 saw stage one (lower section) of the club rooms being completed after a lot of hard work by dedicated members.

Seven years later in 1989 stage two (upper section) of the clubrooms was completed making one of the best club facilities in greater Auckland to watch a match of football at and still is today.

2004 Men’s Northern league 1st division champions.

2005 the club reached the last eight of the Bluebird Chatham Cup.

2006 saw the club change its name to Papakura City Football Club and a growing club membership of over 700 players .

2009 establishment of Papakura City Football Academy, for the development of talented youth in the Papakura area.

2013 Winners Counties Manukau Knockout Cup. winners AFF Conference.

2015 our 1st Men’s Team and Reserves Team won their respective divisions (NRFL Division 2) in Auckland taking them now into the well sought after First Division for this year.  Our goal is to be promoted to the NRFL Premier Division within the next 2 years, and also to potentially host ASB National League games in the future.  The Women remain very competitive in the AFF Conference Division and aim to make the NRFL Premiers in the next 2 to 3 years.  Many of the Women’s team have been developed from the youth of this Club, supplemented by others joining as seniors.

Our Under 19 Team also won their metro division in Auckland.  These are outstanding results for the club, team and coaches who worked exceptionally hard to gain these prestigious wins.

2019 saw the club celebrate 60 years!

For a more detailed history of Papakura City FC a copy of the clubs 50th Celebration book is available for purchase from the club.
