Papatoetoe West is lucky to have an incredible natural environment surrounding us. We are set upon the top of a natural tuff ring volcanic crater that has abundant minerals and rich soil for plant growth.
In the bowl of the crater we find a natural wetland environment which is home to many species of insects, plants, small fish and birds. We enjoy using the fields and the walkways around our wetland.
This term we are learning about how we can continue to look after our amazing natural environment and to ensure it will be looked after well into the future.
We are learning about the local history of our park, and with the help of many experts in this area, we are becoming empowered kaitiaki. Join us on our journey as we learn about Kohuora Park and what is a wetland.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I cannot begin to describe how amazing papatoetoe west primary school is. My son started his first year at PWPS from not knowing how to read and write to excelling in months , with the help dedication and also discipline of Mrs Loyd. My son gained so knowledge learnt so much on a daily it reflected on himself he became less of the shy boy and started coming out of his shell he went from level one reading to level 9 and progressing . They have fruits & Milk boxes given each day they really put a childs greatest interest at heart. Unfortunately we have now moved to Australia which was my biggest down fall was pulling him out of PWPS and I can tell you this now NOTHING compares or comes close to PWPS it's so different here in Australia and with the life i me it has been my biggest regret was pulling him out I wish I could have taken PWPS with me here to Australia. So I highly recommend Papatoetoe West Primary School you will not be disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I only rated 5 stars because if I rate one star and write a review my review gets taken off. I used to go there when I was when I was younger. I am 17 now. It was a terrible school. I remember that I got a concussion because I was pushed over. I went to the teacher and I was crying. The teacher said there is no need to cry and that I was making a big deal out of nothing. My family then had to take me to the hospital. A different teacher made my class run when it was raining, when everything was wet. I slipped and my feel on my mouth. It chipped my tooth and ripped my lips. It was bleeding very badly. We complained to the principal that the teacher made us run in those conditions but she said it was my fault. Another teacher always made me pick up rubbish every lunchtime for just talking in the classroom. Another old teacher told me that nobody would ever want to marry me because I wasn't able to do the math work that he gave me. Those are only some of my experiences. That school didn't give me the chance to enjoy my childhood. I missed so many days of school because I just didn't want to go. I hope that the school has improved by now.
