★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Roy's Peak and the trail is simply stunning, but the parking is way too small for the amount of traffic it receives. It was full when we got there early in the morning, and we had to end up parking beside it in a field (where other cars had to park too)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fair amount of parking here. It gets pretty busy/full. There is a little donation bin right before you enter the track/path if you would like to pay any conservation fees and such, as this is private land but the owners allow the public access to this beautiful peak. In 2019 someone was hiking and lost their wedding ring on the track so they left a little note on the way in by the donation bin/sign, so keep an eye out sometimes interesting stuff like that can be read here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Grandson climbed the Peak while I waited for him in carpark. Loads of keen people climbing, all ages and fitness levels but too much for me! :-)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Steep of the track and the heat during summertime make this track be one of the tough route for beginner including me. I took 7 hrs, start from 1 am to 8 pm, for round trip. There is no shade of tree to hide so you must be well prepared for this route. You should bring at least 2 bottles of water (600ml) and some energy bar. I also brought an apple with me and it do help a lot. ( I recommend to bring 2 ?) some people starts the track since early morning for sunrise but it too early for me. I start in the afternoon and reach the top at the evening. I love the light at that time because it made the sky and the lake so blue and when you walk back the weather is getting cool comparing to the day time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Plenty of parking when I arrived at 945am on a Monday. Almost half the lot empty. Took me 5 hours return on a warm summers day with minimal winds, including time for photos at the viewpoint and 15min lunch break at the summit. Better to start early morning when it’s less hot going up than to start in the afternoon when the sun is scorching. This entire track is on one side of the mountain face so u get a constant view of lake wanaka the whole way up and down. Makes the hiking less strenuous when you can enjoy the view anytime. The whole route is 100% exposed right from the start with no tree cover so don’t forget your sunblock, I got badly burnt. Some parts were relatively flat but most of it was gentle slope up (unlike Ben Lomond which had almost vertical rock cliffs near the summit).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were challenged by the walk as it was 3.5 hours uphill for us. Tested our endurance.... But the views.... OMG stunning. Day was clear and warm. Take shorts & singlet if it looks like a still warm day! and enough water and food to keep you going. You won't be disappointed with the view. ?
