About SS Homes
Napier and Hastings builders SS Homes is a Hawke’s Bay company which was founded in 2011, when Jason Sullivan saw a need for a house design and building company that provides superior service and building standards.
Jason has spent many years in the housing industry; Jason is a member of the Architectural Designers NZ. All members of ADNZ must meet stringent competency standards and ethics. Jason also has a strong background in building and construction management.
Over the years Jason has formed solid relationships and connections with Napier and Hastings builders, as well as tradespeople and contractors, and works with them for new home, bach and renovation projects.
They know that building a house in New Zealand is about more than putting a roof over your head – it’s about your needs, your lifestyle and your dreams.

β β β β β SS Homes βPercy Berryβ build kept popping up on our Facebook page and we fell in love with the look and layout.
Eventually we made contact with Jason and was pleasantly surprised with how approachable, knowledgeable and most importantly how caring he was with our project.
Jason came up to our site and made the time to show us around a couple of his builds to get some more inspiration.
The whole process was seamless from the initial meeting to the final handover which was completed on time (actually a week early), and bang on the initial contracted price.
We absolutely loved the whole process and working with the SS Homes team, and couldnβt recommend them more highly.

I have been in my home now for 3 years: I was referred to SS Homes by a friend who had his home built with SS Homes: Building a home was not on my check list at that time: I had shopped around looking at different exiting houses though many of the houses I saw did not tick the boxes for me.
I met with Jason and planning commenced: My design of home was to accommodate my whΔnau, my children, my mokopuna of all different ages and my extended whΔnau. My priority was at that time that our home would allow us to live together and at the same time have comfortable space for all whΔnau:
I did not want a simple home, I wanted a home with character, meaning shapes and design was important to me:
Such as the ceilings having different shapes and angles, the veranda to have a marae appearance, a whΔnau room that could be used for all occasions, the combination of timber and brick was suggested which looks great and I have had others comment on the design: The hot water system to be generated by a sunlight which has been a great way to keep the power account to a minimal.
My experience of having my home built had many challenges as this was my first experience to the business of building a house, my insight to the language and terms in regard to building materials and the procedures was somewhat foreign to me: I was able to contact Jason to query any concerns I had which was promptly explained and clarified for me. From this experience and the completion of my beautiful home I have no hesitation in recommending SS Homes

β β β β β We were excited to work with SS Homes after being recommended them by a colleague, but the experience was extremely disappointing. We had to pay $4,600 up-front before any work was done on our design (which we have since discovered, is very uncommon). At the time of signing the contract and paying the deposit, we were sent a timeline which set out how long each step was supposed to take - e.g. floor plan in two weeks, elevations another couple of weeks later, and so on. Jason was friendly to deal with and said that they would be able to start on our project straight away, which was awesome. Four weeks after paying our $4.6k we had heard nothing, so I emailed Jason and was told there had been some delays and our concept would hopefully be through the following week. It ended up taking another 3.5 weeks after this, making it 7.5 weeks total for something that we were led to believe would happen in two weeks. The floor plan we were sent was very basic and was just one page. A month later there was still no sign that we would be getting sent elevations or further plans any time soon despite having attempted to follow up with Jason multiple times. We understand that there may be been reasons for the delays which were beyond their control but some communication to keep us in the loop would have been nice.
Any communication we did receive from Jason was very brief, delayed, and not to the standard that we would expect.
I won't go on any longer but I will say that we decided to ditch SS Homes and go with an architect and the contrast in terms of professionalism, communication and design quality has been striking. We received approximately half of our $4.6 deposit back from SS Homes, meaning that we paid over $2k for a single page floor plan.

β β β β β Jason and his team at SS Homes made the building of our new home a relatively stress-free experience for us, even with the Covid factor thrown into the mix. Work and payments plans were all predetermined before the build and this all went exactly to plan. Jason and Brian were always receptive and proactive with any small issues/queries that we had during the build and these were always actioned/explained promptly. We ended up with a lovely quality built home, built by a very professional building company. Would certainly recommend to anyone considering building a new home.

Jason gave us confidence to take on what was our first building project and from design to completion we did not have one sleepless night. We are very happy in our new home.

Jason was very patient with us during the design process and was able to make any changes we needed. He was very knowledgeable about a range of products and made good recommendations.
Jason kept us updated during the build process and the build was fully completed on time. We are so happy with our new home and can't recommend Jason highly enough.

β β β β β Having newly relocated to the Hawkes Bay, we were really unsure about who to contract to build our new home. We were looking for someone who could design the home that we envisioned and follow on to build it. We tried to engage a few different builders but couldnβt seem to get any traction. That was, until we met Jason from SS Homes Ltd after searching the internet and seeing his sign on the side of the road. With his can do attitude, knowledge, and the ability to conceptualise into reality what we envisioned, we knew we had chosen Jason to be the right person. The building process went smoothly and any issues were dealt with promptly and professionally. We were meant to move into our home in March 2020 but Covid disrupted those plans with lockdown, however in April 2020 we were able to move in. Even though things took a little longer with finishing the project due to Covid disruptions, SS Homes communication during this time was exceptional. Would definitely engage SS Homes again in a future project if it arises.

β β β β β We had purchased a section and started talking to a number of companies with pre-designed plans but struggled with the layouts and the lack of flexibility. We were regretting our choice to build and started visiting open homes.
After seeing an ad online for SS Homes with one of Jason's designs we flicked him an email and he made contact straight away. We liked his style and he really listened to our design briefing. He nailed the design and floorplan first go, We made no changes to the original design!
Jason had great input into colours and cladding really challenging our "safe/boring" ideas. He convinced us quickly and he was definitely right, the house looks amazing.
The build process itself was very smooth, everything was completed on time and there were no surprises. The SS Homes team had a clear Variation Sheet for us that was kept up to date with every discretionary change we made. If there was ever a minor issue or change needed they would come to us with possible solutions and we just had to pick one.
Everyone involved from Jason to all the contractors, admin staff, site manager & project manager were fantastic to work with.
We will definitely use SS Homes in the future.
