β β β β β While we had the choice to send our children to our local, well-resourced Decile 10 school, we chose St Joseph's School as our preferred option.
Being an integrated state school, they are not required to adopt the government-mandated 'modern learning environments' - being large classes of two teachers (or more) and 40+ students. After observing a number of schools and classes working under the framework, we didn't believe it was a good fit for our children.
St Joseph's School uses a play-based learning curriculum for younger students, which ensured a seemless transition from ECE for all four of our children.
We love that the school has a relatively small roll, yet is diverse, with an array of cultures warmly embraced by the school.
The school offers free breakfast from 8am for all students, as well as onsite after-school care until 5pm, run by school staff for a nominal hourly charge.
St Joseph's is one of few schools left with its own swimming pool, meaning the students can swim daily over the summer, and at no cost to families. The grounds feature a modern playground, cycle track (the school has its own suite of bikes for students) and all classrooms are air-conditioned.
This is a full primary school: Year 0-8, so no need to transition to an intermediate school.
If you are looking for an alternative to your locally zoned primary school, then St Joseph's is worth exploring further.
