Gate keeper of statue was small but very helpful and knowledgeable when instructing us how to get there. Lovely walk shame that only two Mosaics were completed. Big statue surprisingly not made of concrete. Peaceful and great campsite.

Path is steep and not very well lit at night, which might deter some visitors. The stations of the cross are represented by the path, giving one pause for thought. Good views from the top, making the walk worthwhile even if you're from a background that holds a different opinion of the Lady of Lourdes to that of the statue's creator.

The statue commemorating Our Lady of Lourdes, also known as the Virgin Mary, has been a Paraparaumu landmark since.1958. I tip my hat to the artist and his helpers that it has lasted well over 60 years. The walking track from Tongariro Street is steepish but the views are worth the effort. The track has no lighting of its.own, making the walk slightly spooky at night. Although there is seating, shelter is mainly from trees.

One of the most dramatic landmarks on the Kāpiti Coast is this 14-metre-high statue of the Virgin Mary on the 75-metre-knoll above St Patrick's Church. The statue was commissioned by Saint Patrick's parish priest, Father JS Dunn in 1958 to mark the 100th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes. 'Stations of the Cross’, scenes of Christ's passion in mosaics, were placed beside the hilltop path. As time goes on, the condition of the 'crosses' are not good with only a couple remaining in good condition. Located on the top of a hill, it does require a bit of a walk. However, the view at the top if awesome.

It tells the story of when christ was persecuted thru the walk he did where he was nailed to the cross and died. The story of the statue on the top is explained on the plaque. It's a short but very steep walk.
